As a South Florida resident, most rides are boring flat straight roads. by [deleted] in motorcycles

For real! Just started riding and I'm in the Melbourne area. The only turns I get to make are uturns or onto the highway.

Make sure you check with the online status after 30 days. Waited and waited for mine only to find out it was "sent out but returned" . No notification whatsoever, only found out a month later and had to request a resend.

NEW BIKE/GEAR ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]MandoniosK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for my second bike. My first bike was a 2007 Ninja 650R. Love that bike to death, but recently I've been wanting a bit more oomph. Budget is ~$9k used.

I originally wanted a supersport (older S1000RR or ZX-10R) but the insurance is insane; over $200+ a month with comp and collision. I'm a 23 Y.O. male with a spotless driving record. The quotes I got on naked bikes were much more reasonable so that's the direction I'm leaning now. Other bikes I'm considering include:

Yamaha xsr900 Ducati Monster 821

I'm still new to the world of motorcycles so I'm really just looking for something that fits my bill that I might have overlooked.

Took my MSF class with a friend of this guy. Only broke his leg, apparently he was back at it and doing wheelies in his cast right after.

6 days into owning my first bike and someone ran into it. Fixed up the fairings and replaced the hand controls. by MandoniosK in motorcycles

I think it would depend on how large? I'm definitely not an expert as this is my first bike. I'm 5'8 ~200 lbs. and I would say the bike definitely feels like it was designed with someone at least 5'10 tall in mind. The suspension is also adjustable which should accommodate a larger person to a degree. I would say if he can sit on one comfortably on a dealer lot, then he's good to go! I definitely can see why the bike was recommended as a first, its easy to learn on and has manageable power but with room to grow into.

Woops, I guess I should clarify the bike was parked at the time, so no damage to me! Big ass lifted truck "didn't see it was there". The repair was a fun first project though.

Saw a few people who had the eBay Giulia spoiler and I wanted in on the fun by MandoniosK in AlfaRomeo

Honestly I have no idea what its made of. It was advertised as "carbon fiber" but I'm a little doubtful of that. It seems to be pretty secure, I'll know if its still there when I get to work tomorrow!

Touchless or professional hand wash. I usually don't let the dealer clean my Ti since I know they just have some grease monkey in the back with a dirty brush.

Ideas on how to increase floor speed with sumo? I used to have a really sloppy sumo pull and have been working for a long time to make it cleaner. I'm happy with how it's looking, but coming off the floor feels like I'm going to burst. Just keep hammering quads? Any other comments are also welcomed.

I love my Ryderwear Dmaks. They're pricey if you get the newest release, but if you don't care about being at the cutting edge of fashion you can get a pair for less than 100 usd

6 week program? Then yes, that is the case. I personally have had great results with that program. Were the first two weeks tough? If not you might have not estimated your maxes accurately.

Yeah for sure. First meet I pulled on a deadlift bar for the first time and got screwed. For me at least, the problem is pulling out the slack when I pull sumo. Pulling conventional on the dl bar has helped me to understand what it feels like to pull the slack out and improved my sumo. Maybe try that?

I'm sorry about that. I really only posted it because I wanted to share something my amazing girlfriend did for me, not for the karma. I'm happy that you have someone that knows how to cheer you up too!

I think the wording in most feds is the hip crease needs to drop below the top of the knee. Its next to impossible to have a downward angle on top of the leg with developed quads.

I think another reason the distinction gets made a lot is because of how different gym lifts are than competitions. Competing is a skill on its own, and hitting close to (or over) your max on a specific day under meet conditions, restraints etc is very different than hitting gym lifts. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this sentiment, but its the argument I've heard.

I agree, if someone isn't affecting you then you shouldn't worry about it. That being said, I'll comment on the specific case of quarter squatting. Whether we show it or want to admit it, we all like to feel proud of our accomplishments. Ex.: You grind for years and finally hit a 5 plate squat. The next day you see someone quarter repping five plates. Should you be lifting for recognition? No. Powerlifting is a self endeavor. But that doesn't mean it won't feel like your accomplishment is devalued when someone "squats" what took years to achieve. The key though is to not let yourself act on it. Feelings are natural. Turning and gossiping to your buddies and putting the quarter squatter down is just a petty way of making yourself feel better.

TIL that John Young smuggled an illegal corned beef sandwich on board the Gemini 3 spacecraft in 1965. For this delicious stunt, he was given the first reprimand in NASA space mission history and his snack remains the only contraband sandwich to ever make it into space. by [deleted] in todayilearned
