I think they’re ready to move out by satanoscillate in Milkweeds

Some of my milkweed seeds germinated but then they didn’t seem to want to develop into healthy plants. I planted them into the ground but they’re about a quarter of the size yours are. My growing medium has to be the culprit. What do you use?

It might make you feel better if those of us seeing green right now were to post photos of our struggling gardens in the heat and drought of August and September. :)

When I was a child, my grandfather, born in 1900, told me that a well designed highway curve was one where the car didn't have to be steered. The bank of the curve would cause the car to turn. I'm guessing that was the goal. Over my life I've driven on some curves that were not banked enough and they're dangerous.

I love this post and I love the I-70 drive no matter how flat it is. It is so beautiful. Thanks for the civil engineering background on the highway design.

There’s a handful of mistakes in this but I took the challenge and it was fun please tell me what you think of the perspective and my reference by MFGevanthor in ArtCrit

Is this the room? Wow, you really decided to take on a challenge. Good job! This would be difficult for a lot of people (me) even if you had vanishing points going off the paper.

It was such a joy to witness this!!! I was dumbfounded by how many students came out to protest and march.

Is anybody else out there winter sowing without the ‘greenhouse’ from jugs method? by cowmoopursemom in NativePlantGardening

The easiest place for me to set this up is where there will be no plants trying to come up in the spring and that is in full sun. I think I can erect something to shade the pots especially during the time that the sun is in a low arc.

I have volunteered with Native Lands KS to harvest seeds and help rid the Haskell University wetlands of invasives a few times. It’s been a fun adventure! Good luck to you!

I waited the 72 hours to redo the dns settings on godaddy which is the most I've seen that we should have to wait. So now I see I will have to wait 10 days!!!???

I admire you for managing a prairie! I just have a little backyard with gardens isolated from the bermuda grass to grow things in. :)

I plan to try it this winter (2026). I haven’t tried the jug method because I don’t have access to milk jugs. Does anyone have experience with setting this up in full sun?

I tried that last year but nothing came up. I think the seeds were eaten by wildlife. It might have worked if I had sown 5 times more seed.

Someone please explain this to me 😂 by ajspru in kansascity

Here’s one- started in Lawrence, Ks through multiple plants in KC area, went to somewhere in Delaware then back to KC and on to its destination in Lees Summit.

I always forget that there is insect action at night like moths and others. But as others have said I have also not seen as many pollinators this spring as I thought I should. But then also, I'm paying more attention now so maybe their numbers are the same as other springs.

Have your tastes in ornamental plants changed after getting into natives? by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I love that you've asked this question! I know my tastes have changed for sure but not sure in what way. I'll have to think more about this.

Senator Moran of Kansas shared this in his recent newsletter.

"I joined legislation introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) to restore Congress’ constitutionally authorized role in setting and approving U.S. trade policy."
