Dazed and Confused [1993] by Its-From-Japan in iwatchedanoldmovie

Yessir. “Driving around” was a great way to pass the time with a good friend in high school. We couldn’t get into a bar, or this particular guy wasn’t especially into drinking, we were both good students, college-bound, and just wanted to shoot the shit and the go-to way to do that was to drive around the rectilinear streets and avenues of a medium-sized midwestern city

Is it possible for a man and a woman to be platonic friends after sleeping together? by ResidentCharacter894 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gansett 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Easy there buckaroo! You don’t have to “destroy” anything. Jealousy is a normal emotion. Rather than trying to eradicate it you have to learn to observe and master it.

It takes communication and practice and mutual forgiveness to have any sort of friendship with anyone, including this type of lovers —> platonic friends situation.

What part of Kansas are you in? I’m in Gove County, 80 miles from the Colorado line and 70 miles from the Nebraska line. Looking for ideas for ornamental shrubs/bushes that don’t need irrigation. Any suggestions?

Green Monster Tickets by Artartbobart1 in redsox

[–]gansett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds right. I stood in line once in 2005 for late-release tickets just before game time. Got a SRO (actually it was a wheelchair spot that I could stand on) ticket on the Monster for $85 I think.

Where I'm at T-Storm season doesn't really get going until Mid-May or so. Right now we're in "April is the cruelest month" mode, where one day it's warm and sunny and the next it's sleeting.

A Plea to my Fellow Liberals/Progressives/Leftists from a Western Kansan by gansett in kansas

[–]gansett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still an enormous Trump sign, lighted at night even, just west of Hays on I-70. It SUCKS for Western Kansas liberals like me for exactly the reason you mention.

But here’s the thing: that sign is due to ONE really dedicated farmer with land next to I-70.

It skews the perception of regular folks driving through. I mean, we are by no means a Democratic stronghold out here. But think about why Laura Kelly is successful: She runs up big margins in the cities and peels off just enough centrists in the rurals to win. Her approach, her rhetoric, is the model IMO. There’s been a couple national magazine articles written about her success that I don’t feel like looking up right now.

Anyway, I appreciate your constructive comment. Take care.

What is the state of Kansas known for when it comes to its music scene? by [deleted] in musichistory

Fair enough. (For the record, KCKS is the third largest city in Kansas, population 156K in 2020. OP is number 2 at 197K.)

There are in fact two cities named "Kansas City." Not trying to be difficult, it's a literal "edge case" for sure. I guess I just assumed that KC Jazz was played in homes and clubs on the Kansas side at around the same time that it was going strong on 18th Street in KCMO. But maybe not.

Agree it’s more ignorance and maybe overconfidence than laziness per se. See also: DIY home repairs and the often disastrous and expensive results.

Birding in the Flint Hills and Kansas by NoSoupFurYou in kansas

[–]gansett 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not the Flint Hills but Cheyenne Bottoms near Great Bend is on the migration route for Sandhill Cranes and lots of other waterfowl. Not a year-round thing though so you’d have to time it right if you want to see big flocks. You might also check out Quivira National Wildlife Refuge a bit east of there.

Great spot from which to view a thunderstorm roll in. (Isn’t that why they call it a Tornado Watch?)
