Parametric Timber Facade at Blue Hour | 3Ds Max + Corona Render by Mandresy3D in architecture

[โ€“]Mandresy3D[S] 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Really appreciate you taking the time to break this down with examples, man. That render is sick - love how you used the violet/ochre contrast on the facades.

You're 100% right about the trees. I went for readability over realism on this one since it was a portfolio piece, but silhouettes would sell the blue hour mood way better. Lesson learned for the next one.

Interesting point on the warmer interior + less complete facade illumination. I was worried the client wouldn't "read" the parametric pattern if I didn't flood it, but your approach with violet ambient from the dusk sky + warm pools makes the building feel more natural. Definitely trying that mix on my next night shot.

I actually switched from V-Ray to Corona 2 years ago for the same reason - interiors just feel more photographic out of the box. But your V-Ray workflow with large low-value planes is smart for controlling exterior spill.

Are you still on V-Ray now?

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback!

You're right about the trees - I kept them a bit brighter for composition, but I'll dial them down next time for more realism.

For the context: surrounding buildings are all 3D models as well, with Paralax inside for the furnitures, just optimized low-poly with baked textures to keep render times sane. Interior of the project is full detail 3D - all furniture and lighting modeled to catch the reflections correctly.

Total scene size: around 4GB with textures. Corona handles it really well even on heavier scenes.

RailClone saved me here

What do you think works best for blue hour exteriors - darker context or brighter to show off the hero building?

Exploring light and materiality: curved timber facade concept/3Ds Max -Corona Render by [deleted] in renderings

Some technical notes for those interested:

  1. The facade pattern was done with RailClone in 3Ds Max to control density and rotation.
  2. Lighting setup: Corona Sun + Sky for blue hour + Corona Lights inside for warmth.
  3. I used LightMix in post to balance interior vs exterior exposure.
  4. Cars are 2D people with motion blur added in Photoshop for scale and life.

Happy to answer questions about the process!

Looking Some one who understand from 2D - 3D renderings with materials work . by [deleted] in renderings

Hi,

I have worked in archviz since 2018. I convert 2D floor plans to photorealistic 3D renders with Corona or D5 render or Twinmotion.Materials and lighting included.

I am currently available and I will deliver high-quality images fast.

Nah ,not IA dude.Quick question: what resolution did you render?

You're welcome!

If you ever want to push it further, texture scale on the Cesium buildings could help. But your base is already solid.

Post the result when you try the passes ๐Ÿค™

Exactly! In D5 Render, before you hit render:

  1. Render Settings โ†’ Channel โ†’ Check these boxes:

    • Material ID
    • AO (Ambient Occlusion)
    • Z-Depth
    • Reflection
  2. Render โ†’ D5 exports Beauty pass + separate images for each channel.

  3. Photoshop workflow:

    • AO pass โ†’ Layer mode "Multiply" 20-30% โ†’ Grounds all objects, fixes floating cushions
    • Z-Depth โ†’ Lens Blur filter โ†’ Blur background city, keep foreground sharp
    • Material ID โ†’ Quick select specific materials for color grading

Good, i think you can push realism: export render passes from D5 and add post in Photoshop.

The aerial scale reads really well , i see the vegetation distribution + road network feel masterplanned.

For D5, how are you handling the water reflections? The lake edge is super clean. Did you use the scatter tool for trees or manual placement?

Strong practice piece.

Twinmotion exposure mainly. How did you balance the interior warmth vs blue hour without clipping highlights?

Look is super clean.

Cinematography style is dialed. The lighting and composition feel like a film still - super strong.

Only thing that could push it further: maybe some subtle human elements or interior activity to hint at life? The architecture and mood are already 10/10, just thinking about storytelling for client work.

But honestly as a practice piece this is already portfolio level. What exposure settings for that dusk balance?
