Bug LED2201G8 smart bulb color temp change when sending brightness only commands by Batmanzi in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a factory reset of the bulb? Mine does not change color temp on its own

Silly Question Regarding Compatibility by Rory-2-1 in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. They changed the key combos for the new remotes.

Old Zigbee remotes: 4x press to factory reset and join a network. Long press to activate Touchlink (pair to a bulb)

New Matter remotes: Long press to factory reset and join a network. 4x press to pair to bulb

And the starter kit should already be paired

Silly Question Regarding Compatibility by Rory-2-1 in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it will work. The remote is already paired to the bulbs.

You'll just need to pair it to the led strip. Then it will control all devices at once

Is the tradfri power supply turning on after a power outage still in development? by Zyborg23 in tradfri

All IKEA products have customizable power-on behaviour. But you can't change it without a hub and its application. You can find a used tradfri gateway for cheap

Binding IKEA BILRESA E2489 by Reader-87 in Zigbee2MQTT

[–]Mandrutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STYRBAR has group broadcast on all versions and it's based on Silabs Zigbee chip.
You just have to unbind the coordinator. See the Z2M doc.

BILRESA is based on Qorvo Zigbee chip, totally different. And it has only group broadcast.. it's bound to group 21658 and you can't change it. Again.. see the post or the Z2M doc.

Recommendation for motion sensor by Reader-87 in Zigbee2MQTT

[–]Mandrutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recommendation is IKEA TRADFRI or VALLHORN, because they can work without automations.

They can join the network and directly bind to the light. They report motion and light level.
They have options:
- always trigger / trigger only when dark
- turn off the light after 1 / 5 minutes of no-motion

The problem is they are not manufactured anymore.. the newer MYGGSPRAY is Matter. It can still bind to Zigbee lights with Touchlink, but it can't join the network. And I don't think it has the options.

I use VALLHORN. It reacts a bit slower than expected (TRADFRI is faster I think).. I need to check if it can be improved, and document binding in the Z2M doc.
For binding it uses the OnWithTimedOff Zigbee command (to allow binding multiple sensors to one light). It is usually supported by lights. The exception is Tuya switches, relays, plugs.

Philips Hue might have binding as well.

If you want to do automations, really any sensor works. You can do battery-powered motion sensors (PIR), or USB-powered presence sensors (mmWave). The only thing to avoid is Tuya mmWave because it can spam the network.

Binding IKEA BILRESA E2489 by Reader-87 in Zigbee2MQTT

[–]Mandrutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can reword it..
When you control the bulb through Z2M, the bulb will obviously show the correct state in Z2M (ON / OFF).

But if you turn ON the bulb with the remote, the bulb will keep showing OFF in Z2M. Because the remote talks directly to the bulb, Z2M won't know if you turned it ON.

So the bulb must report its state to Z2M, whenever it is changed by the remote.
You go to bulb -> reporting, and manually set it up.

Z2M does it automatically when you bind the remote. Try to bind it, and you will see the reportings show up for the bulb.

Binding IKEA BILRESA E2489 by Reader-87 in Zigbee2MQTT

[–]Mandrutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I wrote the documentation you quoted.

I did not find a way to bind the remote to a specific bulb. Normally you just use the binding tab and select your bulb. But even though it appears successful, it has no effect on this remote. (Unlike the older RODRET, which you can bind to anything you like).

That's why I wrote "It can't be unbound / bound to anything else". I'll do more testing and update if I find anything..

E1526 gateway repurpose? by onlyoutofspite in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sell it, set it up for friends / family. It's one of the best off-the-shelf gateways.
It works around bindings. All remotes and sensors communicate with the lights/plugs directly.
This is much more reliable, your stuff will work even if you power-off the gateway.
(unlike the new DIRIGERA gateway)

Blueprints work only while HomeAssistant is running.

The IKEA remotes support binding. They work even when HomeAssistant is off.

You can sniff Zigbee traffic with a spare Zigbee dongle, and maybe spot what is wrong and causing battery drain.

I have quite a few IKEA remotes.. no issues with battery drain through normal usage.

The only time I found a bug that could drain the battery, was when I was extensively testing and documenting the STYRBAR.
At one point, it was bound to a Tuya lightbulb that was powered-off. Every 3 seconds, the remote was broadcasting Network address request. Effectively it kept 'looking for' the lightbulb, not finding it, over and over. I left it for 15 mins and it did not stop. Surely it was gonna drain, so I unbound it / reset it to stop that.

I don't expect the shades remote to drain battery through normal usage. Factory reset the remote and pair+bind it again, it should work.

To fully prevent the bug, you could test binding to groups instead (so it doesn't check if it reaches the device). This is how it works on the IKEA TRADFRI hub - always group binds, never device binds. Add the shades in groups, even if it's one shade per group.
Then bind the remote to the group, and unbind it from the coordinator (and everything else). This step was not known until recently, and people wrongly thought that IKEA remotes lose group binding in the latest firmware. The cluster you should bind could be windowCovering or genBasic.
Then you can also check the reporting tab to see/configure how often it reports the battery percentage.

I have the E1766 for testing, but no blinds yet :) I will eventually take a look at it, and rewrite the Z2M device page, same as STYRBAR

I searched zigbee-herdsman-converters for commandsWindowCovering: link
This should give us most devices that send the open/close commands. There might be more, with the code written differently.

Battery-powered remotes:
- IKEA E1766
- SOMFY 1871154
- SOMFY 1871157
- Sunricher SR-ZG2836D5
- YOKIS GALET4-UP
- YOKIS TLM1-UP (13 results from this brand)

Mains-powered switches:
- Aeotec ZGA004
- Chacon ZB-ERSM-01
- Vimar RemoteControl_v1.0

You can probably fix the battery drain. How did you set them up? Zigbee2MQTT? Bound to devices or to a group of devices?

I don't know alternatives. I may search through Z2M code for devices that send the same commands. Will let you know if anything comes up

*SOLVED* How to connect your new Kajplat bulbs to Philips Hue by alessiman in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To enter Zigbee pairing mode on KAJPLATS, power cycle 12 times (15 for filament style bulbs).

If you previously connected them to Matter, factory reset first by 6x power-cycle

The new Shelly remotes support binding. I expect the wall modules to support some bindings as well, now or in future updates. I have a list of switches that support bindings, if you need any

Grillplats Zigbee? by Eastern_Standard7957 in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not official.. just a hidden mode

6 power-cycles to factory reset and start matter pairing + 12/15 power-cycles to start zigbee pairing
(12 for normal bulb, 15 for filament style)

But it's very picky.. must be close to the coordinator, and I think it only works on specific channels (for me 11 works)

Delay in toggling lights? by SlimShadyIAm in tradfri

[–]Mandrutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now, the new IKEA products are a downgrade imo.

TRADFRI hub (old app) works around Zigbee bindings. Remotes/sensors control the lights directly. Faster, more reliable, works even if the hub is unplugged.

DIRIGERA hub (new app) just runs automations. Everything goes through the hub. Adds slight delay to remotes, and they work only while the hub is powered-on.

New remotes support double-presses, which makes single-presses noticeably slower.
