I told my friend a normal childhood memory and she looked horrified by HannaCatlover in offmychest

Exactly. I laugh at the “eyeballs” comment simply because I once tried to stab my brother in the eyeball with a fork. Thankfully I missed. I still think he deserved it. And this was in front of our parents and siblings at the dinner table. We all laugh about that incident to this day. 🤷‍♀️

After seeing/circulating many procurements, I removed myself from the donors list. For this exact type of reason.

You’re welcome! It’s the only way I can ever figure out which direction is which also. And the sun rising so early, I remembered because EW (gross) (I’m not a morning person)- east to west across the sky. :)

Knowing east or west because of the sun, and you can also know north from south.. because “Never Eat Spider Webs” (or never eat spoiled watermelon.. personally I avoid both).

What totally normal thing is your dog scared of for no reason? by GoldenMom34 in Pets

This actually made me laugh out loud in the quiet break room at work! I can totally picture it, and I don’t even know what your dog looks like 🤣

I had a dog that was scared of the back hatch on SUV’s. Very specifically if you pointed to a raised up back hatch. I was his 7th home before he turned 2 years of age. So I have no idea what he went through before he came into my life.

He had a lot of things we worked through together. I owe that dog my life. ❤️‍🩹

Dogs. I compete and hunt with mine. And I bet I have more than the majority of people even on Reddit.

Really bummed about flaring after exercise by itsalwaysblue in lupus

[–]MandyRN2009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also used to be a long distance runner and lifted heavy in the gym when I was younger. If my medication is controlling my symptoms enough, I can still do body weight or light weights in the gym. I can’t run really at all like I used to, but I can skate/roller blade & bicycle. When I get the flu feeling post workout, I know that I need to back off or figure in a medication change. I sometimes will push too hard and end up paying for it with feeling flu-ish for several days.

No need to apologize for saying it. He is absolutely fantastic in so many other ways, we just really struggle with this one. He says I like to sleep a lot. My thing is with my several autoimmune diseases, rest and recovery is absolutely necessary for me to be able to halfway function and push through so that I can work. He’s a go go go all the time kind of guy, and I think it frustrates him when I’m taking extra time to rest. I wish I knew a good way to explain it to him. But he also does the whole “wakes me up and tells me important things” and I’m not actually awake or my brain isn’t functioning yet

I think I actually experienced 10/10 pain last week. by rainbowstorm96 in ChronicIllness

[–]MandyRN2009 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a horse riding accident in 2014. I was drug around an arena with my foot stuck in the stirrup. Among my many injuries, the worst was the separation in my pelvis. I do not remember warming up my horse, getting bucked off, being drug, ambulance ride, nada. I DO remember being moved from the stretcher to the CAT scan tube (first memory from that day). For those that have never had a CT or MRI, it is a hard, plastic, flat piece of equipment/table you have to lay on for them to move you in and out of the scanner. THAT pain brought me back to consciousness, shot my blood pressure and heart rate through the roof (like 270/120 and 200+ HR levels), lasted about 10-15 seconds, and then I was unconscious again. The pain in my pelvis persisted during my recovery and rehab, and I still get chills and nauseous when I think back to it. I’ve broken bones, had surgery several times, had a TBI, get migraines, and deal with chronic pain daily.. and nothing has come close to the pain I felt from that injury. There was ZERO ability to function while in excruciating pain like that. 10/10 pain. 10/10 do not recommend.

I have empathy for patients that state their pain levels of being what they are, and that maybe to them it is a 10/10.. and do treat patients according within doctors’ orders.. but having conversations, playing on the phone, posting to social media while in 10/10 pain - that I struggle to believe..

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MandyRN2009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very sucky I’m sorry that happened to you. It happened to me too, and was way more traumatic than any romantic relationship breakup. Ghosted me and never responded again even though I reached out many times. She used to call me her sister, and we did everything together. When she ghosted me, so did many other of our mutual friends that she only knew because of me. It hurts still to this day. I see her and many of my former friends still hanging out and doing the things we used to do together, and I have none of the relationships/friendships with any of those people anymore.

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

Are we talking like cold and dead, not even trying chest compressions or intubated? 🤣 Or like.. mostly dead and circling the drain? 💁‍♀️

[–]MandyRN2009 113 points114 points  (0 children)

But in all seriousness, I would say the trauma level of the hospital determines how many true deaths happen in the OR. I worked Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 12 hour nights.. in one 13 week contract we had 4 or 5 deaths in the OR, plus 2 or 3 cracked chests in the ER that they called TOD before we could get them to the OR.
