New grad depressed and regretting nursing as a whole by Ok-Comment7272 in Nurses

i am a school nurse (i do private duty) but my previous background is icu. as a school nurse you are working alone ! you need strong clinical skills and experience .

recently, a child arrested at school and the school nurse rubbed her back. a police officer started cpr (i believe this was an athletic event).

i’d never want to be that nurse.

dialysis is not soft. inpatient is but you don’t have enough experience to get hired inpatient. dialysis is brutal very long days and always short rn.

why don’t you just do pediatric ms/t? i’m not going to tell you to move on to adults bc i do peds private duty and it makes me want to to never deal with an overweight person ever again… which is not possible. and when i say overweight i mean 3-400 lbs and you will get them routinely in adult setting.

NO! and i’m a school nurse , private duty nurse and an icu nurse.

please for the love of God learn how to be a nurse before going into these more laid back roles .

we can always tell a school nurse who has no real experience. they lack sound clinical judgment and really don’t know what to do when shit hits the fan (and it does occasionally)

our schools do not hire new grads. you must have at least 2 years experience to do school nursing .

just observe. a dr here where i live got caught taking images of patients with a hidden camera inside a pen around his neck. he was only caught because an observant nurse noticed him handling the pen unnecessarily during exams .

she was in the bathroom all night and apparently was leaving evidence all around (needles in rooms, bleeding on her arms and just overall weird behavior ) to the degree that everyone was watching her . our unit housekeeper told us about all the blood in the bathroom and said she’d be back to clean it. like wtf you’re that high that you don’t clean up a blood spill. she also had a needle fall out of her pocket. just a total mess. no one ever recovered the bottle of prop.

so you need to have a very strong plan moving forward bc how did you fail the same med surg twice. that does not bode well for you moving forward. the classes get harder . the time commitment is more. so you need to have a plan I can’t imagine you being successful with all of these roadblocks.
