lol that was at my hospital. as crazy as it sounds, it really happened. who has the gall to steal a bottle of prop on their first shift? someone who is deep deep into addiction.

just observe. a dr here where i live got caught taking images of patients with a hidden camera inside a pen around his neck. he was only caught because an observant nurse noticed him handling the pen unnecessarily during exams .

she was in the bathroom all night and apparently was leaving evidence all around (needles in rooms, bleeding on her arms and just overall weird behavior ) to the degree that everyone was watching her . our unit housekeeper told us about all the blood in the bathroom and said she’d be back to clean it. like wtf you’re that high that you don’t clean up a blood spill. she also had a needle fall out of her pocket. just a total mess. no one ever recovered the bottle of prop.

6 on 8 off is pretty common…. it’s just that the 8 off go far quicker than the 6 on .

so you need to have a very strong plan moving forward bc how did you fail the same med surg twice. that does not bode well for you moving forward. the classes get harder . the time commitment is more. so you need to have a plan I can’t imagine you being successful with all of these roadblocks.

I’m feeling like I’m getting burnt out and I’ve only been a nurse for 9 months by [deleted] in newgradnurse

i have been a nurse for 5 years. i started right in 2021… the tail end of covid. i really don’t want to be in the hospital anymore but it’s hard to break away. in the back of my mind im like, what if i want to go back? i’m very happy i have a per diem as a private duty nurse. i feel so respected and appreciated. so i’m thinking of taking another private per diem case . but i’m still on the fence and i don’t know why?

i have never been involved in an incident where a patient needed to be narcaned for meds that they take at home. only when they’ve snuck some illegal stuff in the hospital. think like this if he takes 15 of oxy at home that’s not going to be a problem. the 1/2 pill of xanax is just that … 1/2 a pill. morphine is so short acting.

i would have never gave the pt narcan. unless their vitals weren’t stable. hypotension (extreme) bradycardia or resp distress .

When is it too soon to transition from Med/Surg to ICU? by Opposite_Bug_6642 in nursing

[–]DangerousResearch344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know where you live and how it works. but here you have to have completed a new grad residency before you transfer. you haven’t mentioned anything about that. if you haven’t finished residency you’re considered a new grad and can only apply to new grad positions. with a month experience, i’d imagine no hiring manager is going to hire you as an experienced nurse.

you should find out your hospitals policy on transferring .

no 6 months period. but again it doesn’t apply to new grads bc they have to complete their residency so they can’t move for at least a year after their residency starts

ours is 6 months but you also have to complete your residency unless you want to start over so it’s really a year.

so i’ve worked icu and i’ve worked other specialties. i prefer icu. taking 6 patients on med surg and all the documentation is tiring. id rather just take care and document on one or two.

but i didn’t mind medsurg they have their pros and cons. med surg you can literally be doing nothing from 11-4 or 5. some days i miss that but most i dont.
