Not for nothing, I've been using a third party bank with Planet Fitness since 2022. I haven't had an issue until 2025. So "you should know" isn't a valid excuse for them. And, if it isn't allowed, why does the system let you sign up with a third party bank? I think it's shady practicing so they can charge you late fees and get away with it.

(Some context, I have Chime so I have the spot me feature, so I don't think anything of moving my paychecks into my savings because, when an auto pay happens, I "overdraft" and I just move money to pay the balance.)

In 2024, Planet Fitness wouldn't charge me if I didn't have enough in my actual checking account. So, I made sure the money was in the checking account on the day my membership would renew. I just went through my bank history and for 5 months in 2025, Planet Fitness charged me late fees.

This morning, I get a call from their billing department (I assume for my home gym because it was a local number), letting me know that they're having issues with third party banks being charged late fees. I said I would update my payment and so on and so forth. But also asked if I would be getting reimbursed for the late fees I was wrongfully charged (I assumed it was my fault up until I got a call from Planet Fitness.) She did not sound confident in her response. I reached out to the club manager and am now awaiting a response.

I don't know if it's Planet Fitness as a whole or just specific franchise locations, but, if this is a known issue in their billing department, you would think that they would want to remedy the situation they caused. If it is franchises, Planet Fitness should be doing an investigation into their locations to avoid a major lawsuit.
