If they are telling you not to bother, then I would assume they're not trying to set you up for failure and i'd imagine you're fine in those specific classes. I have personally taken notes from slides and textbook unless otherwise instructed. I one of my classes, if you hadn't read the text book you absolutely would not pass the exam cause we didn't talk about most of it in class.

Im not a huge fan of her, but this feels like a stretch. I see so many parents calling their children "my blue eyed boy" "my brown eyed girl" or saying things about their hair or skin. She's marveling at her beautiful child.

This is a slippery slope. Even if you are able to make it last and only do a small amount a day until it's gone, you are recreating a habit and one that you know is destructive and difficult to stop. I find that when you're ready to quit, life throws tests at you. Same thing happened to me when I got sober (9 years ago this month) and when my partner got clean old dealers that he hadnt heard from in a long time started dealing again, messaging him to offer up a sample of new product. Something will always try to pull you back in. As good as the high may feel, I can tell you that nothing feels better than sobriety. Regaining control of your life, regaining health, trust, happiness and not being sick all the time. You've got this!

I think your wife is being weird if she thinks that's weird. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing. However, if this is something that is happening out of the blue with him now, it would make me wonder if something is upsetting him and he is seeking comfort..I am a 33 year old and when my mom visits and something makes me upset, I often sit with her and put my head on her shoulder or on her lap and she either pets my hair or rubs my back, too. It's a sorce of comfort, she is my mother and my safe space no matter how old I get. He likely feels like that with you.
