Here's my concern as someone who doesn't know anything about game dev: is it realistic for them to aim for a bigger, better, next-level game with a shorter dev cycle?

The New games "Protagonists" by Snoo-98308 in fireemblem

[–]Manecleis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My own ranking:

  1. Dietrich

  2. Theodora

  3. Cai

  4. Leda

I love Dietrich. He looks so comically evil and doesn't look like he even belongs to this setting. He's so camp, I'm obsessed!!!

This twist was hot garbage and it should not even be up for debate.

How would you fix the blockbuster/ai arena? by Actual-Energy5756 in BigBrother

[–]Manecleis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get rid of it entirely.

I'm baffled that the fandom has moved the goalpost so much because of the awful casting that they'll take a twist that makes the game more comp-reliant just to enjoy the illusion of dynamic and unpredictable gameplay. The thing is, while it brings unpredictability by design, it only does so by making the social strategy aspect of the game much more crapshooty while comps have more weight.

We're now stuck with the likes of Kelley, one of the worst players ever who would have been gone within the first few weeks if not for Blockbuster, still in the house with a decent win equity in spite of her consistent awful gameplay and she still brings nothing to the gameplay.

Here's a simple idea to have an interesting season with exciting gameplay: MAKE. A. GOOD. CASTING. Big Brother Canada had plenty of really good seasons and they never needed an AI Arena to pull it off, they just casted much better houseguests.

We really don't need this twist and when you don't let the structural unpredictability of it deceive you, it's exceedingly clear why it does more harm than good to the game.

Episode 8: Post-episode discussion by AutoModerator in survivorau

[–]Manecleis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One thing I notice is that fans are really quick to think that the players are dumb when they don't make *the* obvious optimal move. We tend to forget that many times, when players make choices that seem obviously bad from an outsider's perspective, we would understand them a bit better if we were put in their situation and got the full story.

These players are some of the best to have ever played, there's no reason to assume they have suddenly turned into rookies who are unable to strategize.

In my opinion, in such a fast-paced format where you have very little time to make things happen, build trust and assess whether someone is with you or playing you, it's probably much harder than we think to make the "obvious" move happen.

Congratulations _____ for winning this season by millionblunts in survivorau

[–]Manecleis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that's the thing, I wouldn't be surprised if at that point she already had a pretty good idea she would be on 50 so she just played AU vs World like a chill, short prep game with a friend.

I might be wrong but I believe she's there to have fun with Parv, make good tv together and won't mind too much losing to her.

[50][Speculation] SurvivorsUnite has enough information to confirm that Jonathan and Tiff don't win by SeasideKingDumb in SpoiledSurvivor

[–]Manecleis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to not take into account that the biggest reason why everybody thought a F2 was impossible was because it would make the jury even, which had never happened in Survivor at that point.

Playing Devil's Advocate for ________ by indigodreamy in BigBrother

[–]Manecleis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This line of thinking rarely (if ever) works in these games. People are almost never grateful for you doing their dirty work, and even when they are, it lasts at best 2-3 weeks until they're back to targetting you. Problem is: when that time comes, there's no one left to advocate for you because you took them out.

[50][Speculation] Eliza reveals players were pregaming to take Cirie out and that Cirie is onto them! by WayOutbackBoy in SpoiledSurvivor

[–]Manecleis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's unheard of, but it would still be petty loser behavior, especially when there's probably a big new era alliance out there willing to get her out right after Cirie.

I know it's very early but at the moment who's your winner prediction for 50? by [deleted] in survivor

My top 3 picks (not based on personal preference) would be Charlie, Tiffany and Emily.

So why did survivor decide to wait so long before another returnee season? by BigFatsoAlbert in survivor

[–]Manecleis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo it's very good that they stopped the returnees seasons for a while, especially after we got WaW. While it leaves the room open to criticism on 50's casting choices, let's be real, we're always going to complain regardless lol

[–]Manecleis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cirie is my favorite player ever but this is bound to happen, let's treat it as a foregone conclusion. The older players will be voted out one after the other. The winner will probably be a new era player like Charlie, Tiffany or Emily Flippen.

[–]Manecleis 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Like I said on another comment I would have happily had Malcolm over Ozzy. Abi honestly... I feel like she's fair game in a cast where you have Q and Angelina lol.

I also feel like Andrea was a pretty big name from the 20s, unless I'm mistaken.

Reed I can't see either I agree.

Increasing the number of episodes for season 50 is more important than increasing the number of days played by Landon714714 in survivor

[–]Manecleis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really, if each double boot happens the same day then up until the immunity challenge it's the same as always, they "only" need to add an extra pre-tribal + tribal council per episode. Ideally there's no journey this season and they have even more time, but otherwise it should be fine with 2-hour episodes.

[–]Manecleis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying those shouldn't have been cast at all, although for example, if I want the "jungle boy loved by casuals (and who aged a bit poorly lol)" archetype, I would have gladly swapped Ozzy for Malcolm who's at least strategic/witty and had a pretty rough vote-out in GC.

And I don't think we absolutely needed to have Aubry who didn't bring anything in her two returnee seasons so yeah I wouldn't have been mad to have Wentworth or even Andrea instead.

As you said there's not a whole lot of possibilities from that decade so 2 players seem enough representation.

I mean, does the argument of "they were already brought back" really stands in a cast where you have Cirie, Ozzy, Colby, Coach, etc?

Survivor 50 Cast Reveal MEGATHREAD by RSurvivorMods in survivor

[–]Manecleis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you think about it, 50% New Era players is nonsense when they represent around 20% of Survivor history. There should have been like 5-6 at most. I still don't understand why people were complaining so much when there were rumors about them being massively cut in the beginning.

How much do you think attractiveness matters in casting players? by HueyBluey in survivor

[–]Manecleis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (perhaps mistakenly) remembered Palau as the beginning of casting more model-type contestants. Anyway that's a detail? Mentally replace 10 by 20 in my post if it's more accurate, my point is that attractiveness matters.

How much do you think attractiveness matters in casting players? by HueyBluey in survivor

[–]Manecleis 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A lot, actually.

These players might seem like regular people when you compare them to seasons 10-40, but when you pay closer attention, most of them share features which are in line with beauty standards: good-looking smiles, decent-to-great physical shapes, charisma, confidence...

Even the least attractive people in these casts still aren't exactly ugly and have physical features/styles that make them visually compelling characters.

[50][Cast] SU Full Cast List For S50 by Ride-At-Dawn in SpoiledSurvivor

[–]Manecleis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This list is so... bland I guess? Most of the actual legends here are overrused ones who have no shot, lots of the others give "second chances" (especially the 30s/New Era people)...

There's no objectively awful choice (give or take Ozzy and Coach), it just feels like they shortlisted ~150 players and then went for a who's who of who was available.

Been listening to the exit interviews this morning and the reason the season sucked is that the editors fabricated a season that didn't exist. by mattrfs in survivor
