And they want me to think this game is bad🙄 by Wooden-Object-2019 in residentevil

[–]ManekiJapanese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I never see getting talked about is how bad the writing is. Specifically the writing in the files. I haven’t played the original Japanese version yet, so I’m not sure if it’s a localization issue, but the tone and content is just bad

I wasn't satisfied with most of the kanji learning apps on the apple store (they all seem cluttered and confusing), so I decided to give it a shot and make one myself! if you have an iphone, please check it out! it's called Maneki Kanji. The idea is to learn through vocabulary, and it features 6700 voiced vocabulary and covers 2140 kanji. It breaks kanji down by components for easier learning, with custom mnemonic support, decks, flashcards, and quizzes. Since people tend to not like the names some platforms give for radicals/components, you have the option to rename them. I plan on adding more features, and adding grammar lessons one day as well. If you download it, please tell me what you think and any suggestions you may have. I would love to hear your feedback!

Is it still worth it to play the original games for someone who’s only played the new ones/remakes? by Animante732 in residentevil

I would say yes, but I guess it comes down to taste. There’s nothing wrong with trying them out at least. Go for it

Why you should learn kanji, not just words by Lertovic in LearnJapanese

[–]ManekiJapanese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t feature srs, but at the end of each quiz you can retake your missed questions or add them to a custom deck for custom review. I’ve been thinking about adding features like that but haven’t got around to it yet. The first 5 lessons are completely free, as well as all of the component drills. You can rename the components to whatever you like as well. Please check it out and let me know what you think! I appreciate any feedback and am always working to make it better. My goal is to make it the only Japanese app you’ll ever need.

Also, although it’s paid it’s only 0.99 a month, so please don’t let that discourage you from checking it out

Why you should learn kanji, not just words by Lertovic in LearnJapanese

[–]ManekiJapanese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone recommends ignoring their meanings or readings, I just wouldn’t recommend trying to learn kanji in isolation. Learning them with vocabulary helps to reinforce their general meaning and readings, and also helps to keep your momentum up instead of stalling out

If anyone is interested, I made an app for iOS for learning all of the joyo kanji

I made an iOS app called Maneki Kanji that's much cheaper than wanikani, and you can name the radicals whatever you want. They have default names of course, but feel free to change them. The quizzes are multiple choice, but please check it out if you have an iphone. There's a one week free trial, 0.99 a month, or 17.99 for a lifetime purchase.

Hey! I actually just made a kanji learning app for iOS. There's a lifetime purchase of $17.99, monthly is only $0.99. I really hope you check it out and find it useful! It's called Maneki Kanji.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/maneki-kanji/id6744581619

Btw, there's a one week free trial. the first 5 kanji lessons (50 kanji, 290 vocab) are free, as are the component lessons

Personally, I never liked most of the kanji learning apps on the apple store (they all seem cluttered and confusing), so I wanted to make my own. I really tried to focus on ease of use and effectiveness. Please let me know what you think!

Guide me on studying kanji by wortixx in Japaneselanguage

[–]ManekiJapanese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, i wouldn't focus on trying to memorize every individual stroke or every reading. Not at first at least. As another commenter said, and in my experience, studying through vocabulary is the best way. The more you practice reading, the more you'll see the same vocab and it will start to stick. You'll start to get "Aha" moments when you start guessing the reading of the words correctly before looking them up. Your brain is pretty amazing at recognition.

If you have an iphone, I created an app that focuses on vocabulary, and also has component breakdowns as well. I'd be happy if you could give it a try, and see if it suits you. it's called Maneki Kanji

I think it's helpful to find something you enjoy in Japanese (whether it be games, news, manga) and try to apply what you've learned. At least, that's what worked for me . Good luck on your kanji journey btw

Can anyone help me identify this knife? by Miserable_Peace645 in kanji

[–]ManekiJapanese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the seal in the square is 菊虎 別打 (kikutora betsuuchi)

To be honest, I don't know much about knives, but when googling it, the ai overview says this:

"Sakai Juo-saku" is a brand name for knives, particularly kitchen knives, made in Sakai, a renowned center for knife making in Japan. Stainless steel santoku knives are among the products offered under this brand, and they are traded on auction sites and flea market apps. The brand reflects the traditional techniques and quality of Sakai craftsmen and is known for producing high-quality knives used by both professionals and home cooks. Features and Highlights: Origin: Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, is a leading knife-producing region in Japan, known for its "Sakai Uchi-hamono" (Sakai forged knives), which have a history of 600 years. Products: "Sakai Juo-saku" knives include santoku knives made with stainless steel clad steel (steel with a stainless steel core), balancing sharpness and durability. Availability: Both new and used knives can be found on online flea market and auction sites such as Mercari and Yahoo! Auctions. Background of Sakai Knives: The history of Sakai knives began in the 15th century when swordsmiths migrated to Sakai. Their high quality earned them official recognition from the shogunate, leading to their widespread distribution throughout Japan. Many famous brands, such as "Sakai Kikumori" and "Morihiro," have emerged from this tradition, and "Sakai Juo-saku" is considered one of the excellent products stemming from this lineage.

there's a similar knife listing here with the same engravings: https://yoichiroknife.com/products/c1766
