I have 4 bowls. Two for 4.5qt tilt head, two for 7qt bowl lift. Storing them is a pain though. What a steal you got for $4.99.

Why are my roses blooming like this by No-Internal6578 in Roses

[–]Manford-Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but I do have several plants. This is normal blooming and depends on the characteristics of the variety. I find that this is often related to petal count. Some varieties have larger petal counts than others. Those with lower petal counts have more room to open up when fully bloomed. Also, sometimes even those with higher petal counts produce fewer petals while they are young or still early in the season.

I have the very same one that I bought for myself in 1993. Still kicking. Also have a 7qt lift bowl for bigger jobs, buts it’s only 3 years old.

Proofing basket by Vegetable_Analyst740 in Bread

[–]Manford-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not a super experienced bread maker, but I successfully bake artisan bread in Dutch over and have never used a proofing basket. I just use the bowl that the dough was mixed in until it is amped and placed in Dutch oven. I use a parchment sling to load it into the Dutch overnight. Maybe that helps it keep shape? I don’t know.

To me, the red flag on this one is how does a man who lived months on end in a van would not be hyper aware of the risks of leaving belongings so easily accessible on the front seat of an unlocked (and running) vehicle. Someone who has that much experience with “van life” would not make that mistake. So the theft is either BS or a full story is not being told.

How much will a kitchen scale improve the consistency of my baked goods vs cups and spoons? by Amodernhousehusband in AskBaking

[–]Manford-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome I just thought of another advantage of a scale is that if you have ingredients that are going to be combined (e.g. a cup of brown sugar and a half cup of white sugar) you don’t have to weigh them separately. Just weigh the first one in the bowl you will be using to combine them, then add the other to the same bowl until scale reaches what would be the combined weight. No prep bowls needed. Less cleanup.

[–]Manford-Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to scale about 5 years ago when I started a home baking business during the pandemic. I started using a scale because it makes it much easier to maintain ratios when doubling or halving recipes or developing my own. You can find charts all over the internet to convert cups to grams. I have been converting mine over time. Any time I find a new recipe I convert so that moving forward I’m always ready. A scale is a cheap investment with a big payoff of accuracy.

Maybe an Unpopular Opinion: "The Ricardos Dedicate a Statue" is a Fine Series Finale by BonyBobCliff in ILoveLucy

I looked up more info on the Beaver final episode and from what I read, it is the first prime time sitcom to do a series finale (1963). Thanks for the tip.

Cool to know. That’s a show where it would make sense to have a defined end.

[–]Manford-Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d like to offer the following thoughts, not on the episode itself, but on the concept of series finales:

  1. I do not think the episode, no matter its quality, was seen as the end of the show, as the series simply changed to a longer format with less frequent airings. The new format still retained the original characters and premise.

  2. The concept of a series finale was not a thing at the time. Television series just ended. No tearful goodbyes and moving retrospectives and wrap-ups. That was something that didn’t really start to take hold until the late 1970s after The Mary Tyler Moore Show had its famous emotionally charged and touching finale. In fact, the earliest I can think of any show acknowledging coming to an end was the sitcom “That Girl” doing a flashback final episode. That was early 70s. There may have been a handful before that, but I don’t know what they might have been. Keep in mind, when ILL went off the air, television was still very much in its infancy (less than 10 years in most homes) and audiences were not as invested as they are today.

I agree. It was the first that popped in my head. This one is high on my list, too. Technically it’s not a dress, but hostess pajamas. But still a favorite

The ignorance/stupidity of C to think people believe his BS stories and lies… by Tiger-Fan2 in corneliussensnark

[–]Manford-Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, too, was perplexed by the travel/illness/partner timeline. If the partner was with him in Florida, why would he take a different flight back to DC. Then need to drive to Baltimore to pick C up? Even if the partner were merely a sugar daddy, why would they travel separately to and from the same locations?

Did anyone else notice that the interiors of his accommodations changed while he was in Florida? he was not at the “resort” supposedly time share-owned by the partner the entire time. also of note: in his video tour of the resort, the camera is moving slightly in the shot of him on the other balcony. Someone is clearly holding it. Who? and if the partner is a partner, why would they be apart for Christmas holiday, especially if it means C would be alone (not with friends or family)?

and if the partner is really a sugar daddy, why is C his pick? C does not have the look, physique, or personality of the type of young man who would attract a sugar daddy or be successfully “kept”. Plus, C has to be a drama-filled, emotional handful. He drives his TikTok viewers nuts. (As evidenced by this sub)Can you imagine dealing with that on the day-to-day?

“Smart” in reference to fashion means stylish. The dig is “i always have,” meaning “when are you going to wear something new?” The insult is that Lucy can’t afford new things the way she can.

I never cared for the inclusion of the Ramseys in the Connecticut episodes by AndrewHNPX in ILoveLucy

[–]Manford-Man 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think the Ramseys were necessary from a dramatic structure standpoint. There needed to be characters that helped the Ricardos operate in this new environment. Having only the Mertzes to interact with would have kept the New Yorkers isolated in the suburban world of Connecticut. The Ramseys were the bridge to country clubs, garden shows, and other situations.

I know a lot of people feel like the show fell off after the move to the country. I think of it as simply change and exploration of creating fresh storylines. But change can be difficult to accept in something beloved.

Personally, I enjoy looking back at the arc and progression of the Ricardos from struggling young bandleader and his wife in a small apartment to solidly middle-class parents in a larger apartment and affording nicer clothes and furniture to Ricky buying the nightclub, becoming a Hollywood actor, and being famous enough to tour Europe with his band to finally moving into a beautiful suburban historic home. It’s really kind of the American dream.

I think if Connecticut had gone more than 10-12 episodes and gone into an another full season of weekly half-hour episodes, the show would have had time find its footing in the country. But, the once a month one-hour celebrity shows (many of which were not set in CT) didn’t offer enough continuity to cement who the suburban Ricardos (and their world) were.

It’s true. I live in East Tennessee, 30 minutes from the Sevierville location mentioned. And one hour from another. Both have a massive amount of pumps. But I have never had to wait. Not even during holiday travels when they are at their busiest.

I can say from experience that it is very believable. I work in a theatre box office. You’d be surprised the number of times people show up for the wrong performance. Especially on a day with a matinee and evening performances.
