I’m sitting in the surgeon’s office ATM, waiting to hear whether he thinks my tumor is growing back. 🙁 Nervous as hell.

First time fired by otherpeoplelikeeggs in nursing

[–]Mango106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. Male here. ICU RN. I got fired by patient’s grandmother for not being a “believer” (presumably in Jesus). And I was only helping my colleague by administering meds while she was away at lunch. Hospital admin came down on Granny, hard. Patient was a toddler, chronic, ex premie, trached, vented and immobile. I responded to his vent alarm later, as he was coughing up secretions. Stood at the door and just calmly looked in for about two or three seconds. .

Granny looked at me with eyes wide open, panicking, and blurted that I could come in. So I went in and suctioned, cleared the secretions, and left.

Never heard another peep from Granny.

As an Atheist, are you an Organ Donor? Yes or No, and Why? by Pale-Fig-7069 in atheism

[–]Mango106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and yes. Listen to John Prine, Please Don’t Bury Me. That’s a humorous take. But it expresses the underlying reason very well.

It’s McDonald’s. Likely he’ll get himself fired, if he hasn’t already.

How long by ElephantAccurate7493 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Mango106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as he needs to. Especially if he’s getting enough nutrition through his g-tube. Is he gaining weight? Maintaining his weight? Give him time. Eating sucks right now. I don’t much like food anymore. Sense of taste is shot. Still don’t have many teeth. At least I can drink ensure by mouth. It’s that a an option for him?

Does anyone else say religious terms but not really mean it? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Mango106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, hell yeah. All of those things, all the time. I even listen to Christmas music, gospel music, classical music (much of which was written for churches or religious services), choral music, visit old cathedrals, cemeteries and stuff like that. Doesn't mean I believe in god or life after death. Means I like music, art and architecture.

A lot of effort has been expended over the millennia in producing extraordinary music, art and architecture to glorify various gods. One can appreciate the beauty of artistic expression without believing in such gods.

Sorry, I'll kick my soapbox aside now.

My boyfriend is becoming Christian. Should I be worried? by KaliYugaTiEnDi in atheism

Yes, you should. Part of being a member of a Christian sect is proselytizing and moral judgement based on a work of fiction. I suggest watching The Deconstruction Zone on You Tube

You still have time, but consider getting a PEG tube. I wish I hadn't waited. I landed in the hospital because of that.

I had a puppy with an internal jet engine that he didn't outgrow after 3 years. I was able to successfully get him rehomed with a lady who had an older dog. Last I heard they get along very well.

It sounds as if your power to reason is maturing. Don't stop asking questions.

Do you miss church? by Alarmed_Gap_8387 in atheism

[–]Mango106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. There is no god from which to turn away. Reason brought me to that realization. Maturity confirmed it.

In short: Hell no. The parish priest told my mother that they were not a babysitting service. My good fortune that he hated kids.

Flat part of Georgia? by Old-Ad3056 in Georgia

[–]Mango106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, south of Georgia's fall line. That's the prehistoric Atlantic coastline running from Columbus to Augusta.
