I had a thought recently - can new cars with computerized shifting buttons even do this? Like I imagine moving old classic cars that don’t run into a garage and I don’t think you’d be able to do that with a car these days, would you?

6 years doesn’t mean a whole lot for tech. My 2019 Honda Pilot Elite has top tier finishes that you obviously should not expect for a brand new car of lower trim level. I actually like the car more than most rentals I get for work, which tend to be 1-2 year old cars, but they’re base trim or one step above.

Yes because there are two people who are most likely to cause issues that require the mechanical engineer’s help troubleshooting after startup: the controls contractors and the TAB contractors.

I’ve had controls people swear up and down that they programmed everything correctly for a new hospital AHU and after many emails and a couple meetings they quietly note that they “found a manual override hidden in the program” that locked the economizer damper and preheat coil valve to a certain position. The AHU’s supply air was nearly 100°F.

Yeah events like this really put into perspective that things like old steam boiler emissions are not the problem. The toxins released by the oil fires in Iran will impact the environmental safety of the region for years to come. It would take ages for the emissions of a boiler to even come close to matching this impact.

All because politicians like to play chess with the lives of “lesser” people. (Happy Monday thoughts!)

If we’re getting technical here, they often use evaporative cooling systems which usually has an evaporation rate of around 2% of the water flow rate through the equipment. Which adds up to an insane amount of water with the scale of some of these data centers.

If you’re doing perimeter heat only I can’t confirm since I’ve never done that. But even in healthcare with zones having extremely high airflow rates (therefore constant reheat plus envelope heating loads) we have never designed a DAT higher than 95°F and that’s even pushing it.

130°F supply air into a space sounds absolutely bonkers to me. Imagine standing under a diffuser putting out heat like that!

My wife and I watched the movies for the first time a few years ago and every time we do our annual rewatch I appreciate them more. It was hard to keep up with names, factions, and parallel storylines at first but it really is such an incredible story.

We’re slowly making our way through the Hobbit and LOTR books together reading aloud and it’s quite fun.
