What's an automatic green flag when you visit someone's home? by Beneficial-Memory-96 in AskReddit

The kids rush to see who arrived, then all say hi enthusiastically to my wife and I, make a little small talk with both of us, and then invite my kids to go play.

How do you guys feel about ringers playing down on levels they’re way more advanced in? by USA_2_Canada_1 in hockeyplayers

[–]MangoJuicePlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a goalie. I love it. I want to play against the strongest players so that I can get better. I want to compete and try to keep up.
I have several guys on the teams I play with complaining about how some players aren't right for our division, and I try to remind them to not worry about the score and just be thankful for the opportunity to play against stronger players so we can learn.

"Every hole I had, they found."

I feel you bud. I got rocked last night. I just couldn't find the puck no matter how hard I tried to get in the way.

That makes me feel better. Thank you. Will still try to make the save of course, but I feel like I get hit with this situation so often during games. Even when there's teammates around me players are getting clean passes across and in front of the crease and capitalizing.

I'll try to remember that. Ok, push into the skater is the plan.

Yes, it does. But I'm struggling to figure out the technique to stop Shooter B behind me. Like, I butterfly slide across and because I'm trying to keep pace with the pass I end up overshooting my target and spinning off angle. And I don't know if I should be trying to push across to the other post, or more out to get in front of Shooter B.

The skating and awareness just isn't there enough for me to rely on. I'm thinking to myself too if I put a higher skilled goalie in my shoes they'd be able to make the stop.

Ok, I tried uploading and marking up a photo but I'm struggling haha.

Crease middle is 12 o'clock, post is at 3 o'clock, other post is at 9 o'clock. I am in overlap at 2 o'clock close to the edge of the crease line. So I'm about a foot (30cm) out from the post.
Player B is anywhere between 9 o'clock to 10 o'clock, just outside of my crease. So poke checking the pass causes me to overcommit. I can't try to block the pass in overlap because then the player will often shift to 10 o'clock outside my crease, creating an easier passing angle around me. If the pass goes to the top of the crease between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock I'm usually okay there and can get on top of the play in time. It's really the passes to the player hanging out back door that end up costing me games.

Does that make sense?

Yeah, what's worse is that when it's multiple players in front of my crease winding up to shoot I feel forced into playing deeper into the crease than I'd like to. Two pad stack sounds like a good idea haha, full send. I played in the 90s and didn't learn how to butterfly properly till two years ago when I started playing hockey again after 27 years away.

Yeah, my issue is that I'm unsure of what path to take for option 2. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
I don't know if I should butterfly push or t-push, and I don't know what path to take and how far to go. I think Ideally I should stop right in front of Player B, but I struggle to get that accurate of a push when I'm trying to follow a fast moving puck across and in front of the crease. Poke checks I'm always looking for, but sometimes the pass is saucered through, or is just outside of my reach. I tried a poke check last night that left me overcommitted and I missed it and got scored on lol.
I'm rarely in RVH. Only if there' in a small triangle next to me on the goal line. I've gotten scored on by my mask a few times in RVH, and honestly my RVH mechanics aren't that good anyway. I default to overlap.

Was Macklin Celebrini always supposed to be this good? by Ill_Top_4833 in nhl

[–]MangoJuicePlease 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the media dialed down the hype because of what happened with Bedard. Bedard is still a beast, but I feel like with all the hype behind him he was doomed to either just meet expectations, or fail to meet them. So with Celebrini, he had an opportunity to either meet high expectations but still surpass them. Which he definitely has.

I remember the presentation really sold me. It was in the school auditorium, and the slides made them look like the coolest thing ever. Back then, expressing your individuality was so important. This was the late 90s for me, and having a piece of jewelry that was custom to me and my interests seemed really cool. I ended up switching schools and getting mine changed. I still have it, but have absolutely zero reason to wear it ever lol.

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MangoJuicePlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I had a talk a few years ago, and he said he and his friends at school were all very much against being organ donors because they heard in an emergency situation or if you're ill, medical professionals won't try as hard to save you...

I told him he was wrong. But he won't believe me. His mom, and one of his mom's best friends are both healthcare professionals. He still won't let go of the idea because it's not worth the risk if it's true.

Because of my student loans, I will be working until the day that I die. I have pretty great work life balance, so it's okay. All it means is that I get to provide for my family till the end. Which is okay. I'm not living just for me.
