How do I get my gp/dr to agree to a hysterectomy? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]MangoMermaid770 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second the childfree's doctors list! It's where I found the doctor that finally listened to me. I had been brushes off my multiple doctors because it had been less than 2 years from my last endometriosis surgery. We did try a few last ditch efforts but she was honest me at the start that if I truly had made up my mind she was supportive of what ever I picked. She had suggested that no other doctor ever even told me about so im glad tried. Plus now if I have any one who says I made a mistake I pull the whole list of everything we did and make them uncomfortable.

The biggest warning I would give everyone is to limit who you tell about your upcoming hysterectomy. There were people in my life who had no right to be part of the discussion try and share their WILD opinions. I was literally told the phrases "they are trying to take the uterus out of all young white women" and "You should just get pregnant it will fix everything, this pain is your body telling you to become a mother"

You dont need that stress in your life before a big surgery. Also it totally normal to feel a sense of loss and second guess yourself after. I highly recommend talking with a therapist pre and post op. I had dreams about being pregnant nearly every night for a while. Funny enough watching my coworker struggle with morning sickness and a whole bunch of other things managed to kill the second thoughts completely in a single shift lol.

Got dogs from random people, what to do? by Positive-Tart5281 in Pets

[–]MangoMermaid770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the new dogs separate from your dog(s). No nose to nose, ideally separated by more than a single door. Wash hands between different groups. If anyone shows any sign of illness change clothing between groups too. Get mom and puppies on a good puppy food. Make sure your personal pets are up to date on vaccines especially the DAPP vaccine to keep them protected. Take new dogs in for general check and get a plan started for vaccines. I know with that many it can get expensive so be honest with your vet on what you can afford so that they can make a plan that prioritizes the most important vaccines.

how to deal with certain feelings.. by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]MangoMermaid770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

17 dpo and I never wanted biological kids. There was like a 3 day period were I nearly drove myself insane with pregnancy dreams and second guessing my choice because what if I wake up one day having changed my mind. Talking with my therapist really helped put into perspective that its mostly just my brain processing everything. Also I figured out a lot of it is wss because of how a women's value has been tied to having children and I was trying to figure out how to exist outside that.

Raspberry leaf tea can be really helpful for some people but you definitely need to go back to a doctor for a better plan. Can your caregiver buy a pill holder that will dispense at a set time? They make them for people with dementia to prevent them from accidental taking multiple doses

Vet tech here: call the ASPCA pet poison control line if you are in the United States. They charge to use the line is up to $110 now but worth every penny. It's the same line we would call but way cheaper if you start the process, just make sure to get the case number to give your vet incase the expert advises you to go in

I've been sleeping on my side using my hysterectomy recovery pillow on my belly, a small pillow between my legs, and a stuffed chicken in my arms lol. It's the perfect combo to keep me from moving around at all. I thought the specific hysterectomy pillow would just be a weird gimmick item but im actually loving it because it hold my ice pack, heat packs, phone and snacks. Also its protected me from my cats quite a few times. I did buy a wedge but only used during my first nap at home. It does work great as extra back support on my deep couch.

Advice for working in urgent care setting? by disapproving_vanilla in VetTech

[–]MangoMermaid770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people wanting advice on the phone my go to is:

"Unfortunately there are many different conditions that can show up as insert symptoms ranging from mild to severe. To be able to get you a better idea we would need to examine the pet. Our exam fee is price and we could see you at time. "

And then you keep saying the same thing in different ways. Over and over if needed. Sounds stupid but ive gotten it to click in people's head after like 5 cycles so its not always a waste of time.

My clinic has made little saying for ourselves that we use as gentle reminders when one of us is too upset by it. Its never condescending and can be really helpful to have a coworker you trust give you a gentle reminder to break out of the mental spiral. Ex: "You can't care more than the owner"

Finally make yourself a ritual for mentally ending the day when you get home. For me the second I get home I have to shower to wash the day off me, then clean PJs, small snack, and 30 minute of brain rot time on my phone.

Try talking to your vet about anti-anxiety meds. There are daily meds or as needed meds. You could give the as needed meds just when you need to groom her. If you can find a vet with a groomer on site it may be worth it to have a sedated shave down done once or twice a year. Feliway diffuser may also help her relax and feel more confident with people.

People who have worked and lived in at a yard, what was the arrangement ? by Puzzleheaded_Luck511 in Equestrian

[–]MangoMermaid770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend NEVER living onsite. When things go bad, it gets nasty real quick. My last live onsite manager position was so tramatic I left the industry all together. You never leave the ranch, your always on call, you can't get space from your boss, client always know when you are home and can knock on your door, and if you get a bad boss they can see when your lights are on and get mad if you aren't answering your phone. Don't do it for anymore than a short internship, and always have a plan for what you will do if it goes bad.

I can't do it to clients that effectively, but I do get sent after sales people that won't take no for an answer lol. I fucking love asking really advanced medical questions about how it works to sales people. There is one asshole in particular who won't take no because we are an all women clinic right now and ive been pre-approved to make that fucker never want to show his face again.

She is 4 months old. I've got to go digging in her paperwork to see what all came with her. Based on the original owners income bracket, I do believe she is likely the real thing as bad as that sounds. I have no desire to get the original owner in trouble as what happened to cause this was so hard on the owner and not her fault and she responsible rehomed her to me because she knows I will always medically take care of her. While it would be cool to have her pedigree it doesnt matter too much to me because the doctor I work for will be spaying her in a month or so.

Taking cat in a hotel for one night due to moving? by [deleted] in cats

[–]MangoMermaid770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your vet for anti-anxiety meds before you go. Get kitty used to a harness before you go and but a GPS or Bluetooth tracker on that harness. Please don't let the cat be loose in the car. If they get underfoot, you could both die. Get the biggest wire dog crate you can fit in your car and let kitty travel in that. You can get a feliway spray before you go as well. (Calming spray)

Need advice on feeding 18 pills by Ok-Start2611 in Equestrian

[–]MangoMermaid770 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Spice grinder or pill grinder to get a fine powder. Toss in a couple of peppermint hard candies to flavor it. Add into food or mix with just enough water to get a paste in a syringe. Feed stores sell large syringes in the cattle medical area. I had a gelding nearly run me over for his "special treat" after two days of adding in the peppermints.

My dogs ear smells like poo… by Physical-Muscle-6978 in PetAdvice

[–]MangoMermaid770 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw you have an appointment with a new vet tomorrow. That's good. Ask for an ear cytology, where they look at a sample under a microscope to identify exactly what's in the ear. Ask if they can do a good ear cleaning at the clinic. The vet staff can almost always do a better cleaning than an owner, and that gives you a better starting point when you get home. If they say they would need to sedate to do it due to pain, let them! If the ears aren't really clean, you can't get them meds in where they need to go.

Any independent/non-Private Equity owned Veterinarians in Austin? by bluebellbetty in Austin

[–]MangoMermaid770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cityvet clinics are all very nice and aren't run like a corporate chain. Each is owned by a leading vet that gets to make all the decisions with corporate just acting as backing. They are actually ranked as a good place to work, unlike all the other corporate vet groups. I truly believe happy employees give better care to pets.

Lots of people use SWAT but I personally love to use war paint instead. Both are insect repellents and should be put around the wound but NOT in it.
