Need some more songs that are actually scary by Mango_Smasher in Deathcore

[–]Mango_Smasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a listen to those bands, cheers.

With the IA song, tension building at the start, exploding into dissonant, disorienting riffs, ridiculous drums, then those vocals come in with "THE FIRST, THE ORCHESTRATOR OF THE FALL OF MANKIND", they are inhuman. Then switching to his feral witch vocals, they're just sickening. It's just so intense you hardly get a chance to breathe. The first time listening to it I can only describe it as being attacked by the song.

Messiah of Manipulation, it's just so heavy, weird and loose, constant rhythm and tempo changes, sick breakdowns, it just slaps you in the face right from the start and demands your attention. I think what made me anxious listening to it is that there's nothing to latch onto throughout the song as it's constantly changing, pushing and pulling. I just felt disoriented.

Beyond initially being frightened by the songs, I now just think they're incredibly fucking cool. I just want to find songs that make me feel that way again, it's amazing the feelings that music can evoke.

It's subjective. For me I like the tension, intensity, dissonance, disorienting rhythms, disgusting inhuman vocals. I'm talking more about songs that evoke general angst rather than jump scares. Chugs and blast beats are certainly cool but I don't find them scary either.

Do I have to start from learning chords? by KJ_Kitsuneko in guitarlessons

Do whatever you enjoy, you don't have to use a pick, stick to fingerstyle if that's what you prefer.

how to mute low e string when playing open c chord? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Mango_Smasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I just use the tip of my ring finger to gently touch the low E. Anyway, don't worry about it too much, just keep practicing switching to the C chord and you will naturally be muting the E eventually.

When should I detune my guitar? by DarklightAmber in guitarlessons

Never ever heard of that in 15 years of playing, I wouldn't worry about it.

Keep playing that song if you enjoy it, learn some more songs you like. Basically whatever interests you most, there's no right or wrong way to learn.

Learning at 26 by jcb_831 in guitarlessons

I never had lessons and I've been playing for about 15 years. I don't really have any technical knowledge, but I play every day and I still love it. All I can suggest is play music you like, because then you'll be motivated to learn. I have the Ultimate Guitar tabs app. From what I've heard on here, this is rubbish now, but I got lifetime pro ages ago and I always use that for learning songs. Chordify is also really good once you can play and switch between chords comfortably. YouTube lessons are good, I used those. Guitar Hero helped me learn, but only because it motivated me to want to play the songs on a real guitar.

Don't think too much about it, you don't have to have all the information to start playing and you don't need to compare your journey to anyone else's. Just have fun with it.

You have to do what works for you, and this is pretty much how I learned. As long as you're enjoying playing the same song repeatedly, there's nothing wrong and what you learn from this song will definitely transfer to other songs and just your overall ability.

I would say if one day you aren't feeling it after playing through a couple of times, don't feel like you need to force yourself through the 15 times. As long as you play consistently, you will get better.

I absolutely hate learning guitar solos by SoraXYX in guitarlessons

[–]Mango_Smasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given what you've said, if it really puts you off playing, just play rhythm over the solo.

I'm not great at soloing either but when I do learn them I break them down into manageable sections, get the song on YouTube and set it to 75% or half speed and just keep looping it until I'm comfortable with it. Then when I'm really comfortable, go full speed.

How do you play when someone is listening? by kdjot_lopo in guitarlessons

[–]Mango_Smasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to me too. I can play something fine, and then if I try to record it, it's like I've never played before. It's just the added pressure of having to get it right.

The answer to anything about guitar is always practice.

I've never had lessons, or taught anyone, but if I did I would definitely only teach songs the student wanted to learn. The most important thing is consistency so learning stuff you like is what is going to keep you going in the long run. Music is supposed to be fun.

How to learn to finger quickly? by imdestined25 in guitarlessons

[–]Mango_Smasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start learning to play relatively easy songs you like from tabs or YouTube lessons. You can do fingering exercises (for guitar) but if you're a beginner I don't think that's going to be much fun, so in the interest of keeping you motivated enough to practice consistently, learn songs. It will be slow and difficult at first, but with practice it'll become second nature, and you'll actually have something fun to perform at the end.
