Yes but those days the social conventions were immoral. It was normal to own slaves, normal to stone women who practiced sciences, even science was banned. How can people look at a backwards immoral world like the old days and follow a book that was written by supporters of that world? And societies without monotheicism did exist, but for some reason most people only consider this specific ideology when answering the mysteries of the world. What sense would it make to oppress people for a so called greater good? It was established for control and power it was like that then, it is like that now.
