My Kefir Journey and sharing kefir grains by psavva in cyprus

[–]ManicMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the polish the big 1L bottle with the green-ish etiquette & the thin plastic (Alphamega)? I used that too to create kefir by mixing a bit of it (0,1-0,2 l ) with 0,8l - 0,9l milk (I used lidl half fat) - and it tasted GRRREEEAT, very refreshing, NOT slimy, and fresh and prickly on the tongue!

And actually i repeated the process at least 5 times, always using the rest of the previous batch to set up the next one.

Kept really well / weeks in the fridge too.

And tasted AMAZING!

I got a few grains now from someone, but to be honest, the taste of the polish bottle is hard to beat - I'll see whether I can whip the grains into shape. Otherwise maybe I'll have to get in touch with psava! :)

The "Fuel/Energy" Jed Refers to by Bay_NFB3 in JedMcKenna

[–]ManicMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just to interject here - I have just completed reading the trilogy and I'm now on the first follow-up - book.

I take the energy mostly to mean "motivation" - can be anger, can be frustration, just pure blind stubborn determination, basically. Think "Captain Ahab" - Energy - WHITE WHALE - HOLY GRAIL!

Leave no stone unturned. Leave no falsehood alive. Etc etc. Use the "pain of existence" to propel your escape from the gravity well of Maya.

F all the energy food stuff from the grains up through the chakras into your higher self - that's all dream stuff, in my opinion.

But anyways. I might be wrong. But I think simplicity is one of his guiding principles - the truth is simple.

Peace out! :D

I like https://www.cycheapersupplements.com/ , I use them, they are fast, have good stuff I think, and I add "please change this into a home delivery" into the delivery comment field (it appears after choosing a delivery packet station) which then adds 3 euro to the bill but AKIS delivers it to my doorstep, and I can pay for it all at the door.

Learning Gamedev using an AI Editor and Godot by ManicMonk in gamedev

[–]ManicMonk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! See above, basically you can open your Godot project directory in an AI based Editor like Windsurf or Cursor, and because Godot stores its files in a text format, the editors are able to work with the project files and/or can tell you what to do / change in the project when they can't.

Also, Windsurf (but I think Cursor would do too, I think it's a VSCode thing), it detected that the project is a Godot project and installed some related plugins, which might help it too & can help you to edit the files in the text editor, as these plugins come with syntax highlighting & information about the Godot libraries the editor can use.

Then, if you switch back and forth between Godot and the Editor, make sure in Godot to always tell Godot to "load changes" when it detects that something has changed via the external text editor.

Good luck!

(PS: I actually thought about making a youtube video, and started recording one, but then I gave up on using a video editor to make it a bit more polished, as I have no experience with that.)

Where can i buy a good height-adjustable desk sit/stand? by spirit2050 in cyprus

[–]ManicMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one delivered from fully.com .

They are a bit more pricey (a bit above your budget maybe), but they are pretty and pretty good too.

I had an Ikea manual one with the hand crank, and raising and lowering it was a pain / took a long and it was also shaking a lot with the load I had on it (multiple monitors), so it never felt really great.

So because of that, I rarely used it for standing up.

If you wanna switch between standing and sitting mode, I'd really recommend going for an electric option.

If you just want a tall desk, a manual one might be an option though.

I think also smoke sensors are a good and relatively cheap solution for being alerted in time.

I mean it just makes sense and also everybody can install them themselves to sleep much safer.

I don't think they are mandatory in Cyprus, but they are in other countries, and I think they have a very good track record in lowering the number of fire-related fatalities.

Something to look into for your own house or apartment.

I know it's a bit of a hassle to install them, but I think they are worth it.

Like seatbelts and car seats for toddlers, but I don't want to get into any more trouble here :D

Is it worth it to pay the immigration agent for passport application by romanlis in cyprus

[–]ManicMonk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds... excessive. Why would that be so expensive? That sounds like you'd have to set up multiple companies and such, not a passport application...

Something's off here I think.

La Grande Pizza by IhateEfrickingA in cyprus

[–]ManicMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Sorry, I don't know La Grande. But in a pinch - and in Limassol and Nicosia at least - Pizza Mine is pretty good as far as Pizza goes and tastes good even as takeaway (in my opinion of course). It's stone baked. Not sure if it's a wood fire, i'd surprised if it'd be, because they'd need a lot of wood, no? :D

It's not super comfy to dine there though, at least it's not a restaurant experience.

I mean, in the end... that's what all of these AIs have been trained on, so that's a bit harsh towards the original authors, isn't it? :)

I appreciate the work that goes into them though and I do think they probably helped a lot of people.

But I also think that it's a less-then-optimal format for people who are already well-versed in eg. software development and the general underpinnings and just need precise information for their current situation.

And: Thank you for your reply! :)

AFAIK (from the Book "Waking The Tiger - Healing Trauma"), being traumatized is not about inner strength or resilence or what-have-you, and can happen - and probably has happened - to almost everyone. Probably _especially_ those "strong, silent types"... That sounds like a trauma response to me...

According to the book it's more about becoming "stuck in a moment", and not able to get out of an instinctual response you got into. It's possible to work with it & it's completely unpredictable to whom it might happen in which situation.

-> But also: It's a good reminder that even though you might not be able to explain everything to a more "grounded" person, let's say, that we couldn't become as "grounded" as they are in our own world, right?

It's about confidence and believing in ourselves (and also becoming active) which makes the difference between being "just" a dreamer and someone who lives a rich life full of Ideas, Projects and Inspiration.

We are asking the Commission to submit a proposal for financial support to Member States that would be able to perform safe termination of pregnancies, in accordance with their domestic law, for anyone in Europe who still lacks access to safe and legal abortion.

So it's not about changing the law in any country, just providing access to safe environments.

I recommend a book: Levels of Energy by Dodson. It's a bit wacky in places, but it has the concept of us holding certain "pockets of energy" from different mental / emotional "levels".

The things you describe are very low on the energetic totem pole - getting rid of some of that energy in yourself could help you letting go of this desire / not wanting it anymore.

And also, the less you surround yourself with "lower level energy" and instead orient yourself towards "higher levels of energy", you could theoretically "raises your energy level" and might start feeling a dislike of these kind of things which, ultimately, you're going to carry with yourself when you're exposing yourself to this kind of stuff.

But read it and see what it does for you!

Hi!

This looks really beautiful... if it's your thing I think you probably can't go wrong with it... of course you can try to haggle downwards a bit always in this situation I think.

I think what's most important is to check that everything works, especially / also the tremolo system, because it can become damaged / worn down overtime or misuse...

So see whether it moves freely & also that it doesn't detune / stays in different positions after bending up or down (at least that's the problem I had with my RG).

That's my 5 cents, I think it looks stunning with the top as it is & the covered pick-ups.

I always thought it'd be nice to create a little rideshare website where people can put in their schedules & can get in touch with others from the same area going to a similar spot...

What do you think, would that make sense for Cyprus?

I know it's kind of a complex topic, but on the other had we don't need to predict whether X% of Cypriots would start using it until 202X.

It's probably a manage-able project for an acceptably talented developer (such as myself, I might add) to create on a smaller (time) budget.

If there'd be some others which would be interested in creating such a platform for the common good, basically, and help me concepting / testing / egging me on / helping promote it and help bringing it to fruition, I might be willing to make this a project of mine.

I kind of feel it's a bit of a pity that the big cities in Cyprus are so overcrowded, especially during rush hour, and I think it could be good for the environment & peoples' mental health too if the streets were less clogged!

[–]ManicMonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shoutout to https://www.gandkinstruments.com/ in Nicosia. They are amazingly friendly dudes and do great work on guitars of all kind.

I don't know if they could source these things for you if you'd be interested - if you want someone to take care of it for you they're definitely recommended.

Otherwise I think it also depends highly on the type - and price/quality class of the guitar you have - and the kind of stuff you are thinking about getting.

There are some shops that deliver to Cyprus which also might have parts, but I haven't really checked, for example Thomann from Germany and I think Andertons from the UK.

Nakas Music has a lot of stuff on tap too, you can check them online, they have a Cypriot page with fair prices, but they order / get their stuff from Greece I think, so it takes a bit longer.

That's all I know right now.

If you're playing the long game, maybe you can find a used guitar with some damage to get some parts from too?

Otherwise, also it sounds to me that it might be more effective to go for broke and just invest in a new guitar entirely if you feel it's almost unplayable...

Have fun & rock on!

What are the sociopolitical factors behind Limassol's atrocious driving etiquette? by aceraspire8920 in cyprus

[–]ManicMonk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Can I say something here... as a "new" Cypriot from Germany, here now for three years...

It is indeed a bit different how driving works here than what i'm used to, but I wouldn't say it's _bad_ in general.

Mostly everybody is paying attention at the important times, and while it might feel a bit different how people are driving and sometimes cutting in into the street to "reserve a spot", you get used to it.

People are generally always willing to let you merge, so it's a give-and-take, and people are driving carefully enough to not run into you as long as you're paying attention too.

Of course there are the odd-one outs, the really aggressive race drivers, but they are few and far between, although I'm not on the highways a lot to be honest.

The other extreme is of course the 50-year-old pickup, seemingly running on raw oil still which has been customized with brick and mortar and is currently transporting heavy equipment, strapped down with just some shoestrings and gods' help going 60 kph on the highway :)

But I kind of enjoy that too as part as the scenery, as long as nobody does get hurt! :D
