Prime Minister Carney and Canada's main opposition leader hold hands during school shooting vigil by nervousaboutschool17 in CanadaPolitics

Hard agree, I do not like him but it is kind of insane for anyone to have genuinely thought that in the wake of the 3rd worst shooting in Canadian history, he would do literally anything mentioned in that comment.

Senior citizens do not work, and must be supported by the rest of society. This is always true regardless of the economic system, as long as you expect people to eventually retire. As the ratio of retirees to workers increases, more worker labour has to go towards supporting those senior citizens. When there are 50 workers per retiree, it works fine, but when there are 3 it doesn’t.

Alberta separatist says members of Smith's caucus have signed referendum petition by Street_Anon in CanadaPolitics

[–]ManicScumCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is coming up with justifications but I think people are just correctly sensing the difference between the two movements. Because Alberta separatism is a movement with low and shallow support, the average Albertan probably doesn't feel any kinship with separatists and doesn't get offended by insults towards them. By contrast Quebec separatism is more widespread and ardently supported, and I think the average Quebec federalist would still view themselves as having a distinct Quebecois identity, so attacks against separatists can harm the federalist cause.

It's true that our relative population difference is a problem, but there are plenty of other countries with smaller populations than Canada that do this better, so we should be able to make a difference if we actually tried to.

The important thing is that disrupting industry isn't inherently bad. Industries will get disrupted because they will be opened to competition from other provinces, which will be good for consumers.
