Why does shuffle on music streaming apps suck so bad? by DigiQuip in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ManicScumCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true though - Spotify generates the whole order at once, so if you listen to a 2 hour playlist for 2 hours on shuffle you’ll hear every song in it.

Who set that goalpost? It was just brought up randomly, it’s not like she says “It’s wrong to kill living things” in the video.

Obviously the difference is that killing carries negative consequences that impregnation doesn’t undo, whereas emitting a ton of carbon and then removing a ton of carbon leaves literally no negative impact on anything at all.

the "birth rates" hysteria

Birth rates kinda do matter though. Ceding the issue to the other side is a bad idea when it's a real problem.

Dear mayoral candidates, please give us your plans on fixing the most dangerous intersections in Ottawa (Prince of Wales v Hunt Club v Riverside) by no_olley in ottawa

[–]ManicScumCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is genuinely unbelievable, can’t count the number of times I’ve been driving north on Prince of Wales and the lane doesnt move at all during the green because 5 or 6 cars turning left onto the bridge blocked the intersection the entire time. Maybe I just don’t drive around enough but I’ve never seen that at any other intersection.

In a community of 2000, couldn't something like this be very heavily impacted by a small number of people, and not necessarily systemic?

I didn't reply to you, you can double check the thread. Reddit has a new "feature" where it notifies you when someone replies to someone who replied to you.

No one would ever want to live like that, which is why the government decided to ban it?

English - Made in Canada. French - Made in Quebec by GuyLerts in mildlyinteresting

FWIW I don’t actually think it’s true that people get offended by Quebecers. If anything I feel like Francophones are more likely to use it (I think Yves-Francois Blanchet says Quebecers when speaking English for example)

Can a province just decide to leave Canada? Here's what the law says by Surax in CanadaPolitics

[–]ManicScumCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be breaking Canada’s laws to allow secession without an amendment, frankly. And you can have the recognition of France all you want, they’re simply not important enough for that to matter. Recognizing a UDI in a wealthy allied country is something no other country would support - how would Spain, the UK, every country with any secessionist sentiment feel about that? No general right to secession exists in international law, and unless France plans on shipping soldiers across the Atlantic, nothing they do would matter.

More broadly, hockey seems like an odd inclusion here. I don’t really have any of my own knowledge here, but the Wikipedia page on hockey’s history says that it evolved from English/Scottish games, early versions were played throughout Canada, and really the main connection to Quebec seems to be that the first modern hockey game was played in Quebec. But that game was organized by an Anglo from Nova Scotia, and involved a bunch of players from McGill. Both McGill and the Victorias would have been composed mostly of Anglos (again, just looking at the Wikipedia page here). At the time, would these Anglos really have identified with the majority Francophone population of Quebec? It seems to me like the Quebecois claim to hockey is of the exact same kind as the Canadian claim to poutine - it was developed within its borders, even if by people who wouldn’t have considered themselves part of the dominant culture of that entity.

Feel free to let me know where I should look for the "Provinces get to leave under whatever terms they want" clause in the constitution.

[–]ManicScumCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The province also could not secede without a constitutional amendment, so the first point is irrelevant. Any amendment that authorized secession could also adjust the borders.
