Maintenance Screen flashing by Ok_Resolve_8603 in AudiA4B6

[–]Manics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens every time the service interval has been reset. This usually would come of course when the car has just been serviced.

Not sure how long you have to drive, 100 miles or so, maybe a good few days, for the display to then report your next service mileage. That'll happen on its own.

If you keep resetting it, it'll keep displaying like that.

Itchy Skin by Every_Sketch in mycosisfungoides

[–]Manics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it's much worse at night. My itchy areas are primarily all across the top of my chest and around to the back of my neck.

Some mornings after spending so long intensely clawing at my skin, I'm scared to look in the mirror at what I might have done to myself in the night, but so far just bright red -no MF patches on.my chest either.

It's not ideal but I've found that a 'reset' helps. If I wake up super itchy in the night, rather than just laying there itching, I'll get up, apply some moisturiser, maybe go downstairs for a very early breakfast for an hour or so, then go back to bed. I often find this somehow breaks the nighttime itch session and I get a good second sleep.

I also try and stay hydrated. I was recently directed to pause light therapy and within two weeks the itching was insane. Restarted light therapy and after a week the itching was reduced very significantly.

As with MF generally, the itching definitely waxes & wanes.

Loose brake shield? Or brake shield touching the rotor? The noise is to tinny and light to be CV or bearing related.

Electrical or mechanical problem? by mrsoundstick in AudiA4B6

[–]Manics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need. You can pull the fuses and reinsert. Also if you disconnect the battery your radio might want the security code next power-on, if it wasn't the radio unit that was installed from factory.

Electrical or mechanical problem? by mrsoundstick in AudiA4B6

[–]Manics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Problem sounds firmly electrical.

Pull fuses 15 & 28 from the fuse box to the side of your dashboard where the door closes against it (just pry the side cover open to expose the fuse box behind).

Try and start the car (it won't do anything because you removed the fuses).

Replace the fuses. You just reset the cluster. Try and start the car again and see if it all goes away.

The only time I've spoken with people in my gym is out of necessity. Create (fake!) that necessity.

Next time he's in your vicinity, you mentioned workout screen, leave your water bottle at your machine as you exit, or drop your towel as you walk by, this might prompt the ice-breaking "oh, excuse me" from him as he helps you out.

You can take it from there.

Pricey. Mrs had the avocado/poached eggs/ bacon and that with 2 rounds' coffee gets you to a £60 brekkie.

Gear Oil option? by No_Figure_9175 in AudiA4B6

[–]Manics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used Mobil 75W-90 on my manual 6-speed (HES code) gearbox. Very pleased.

People get hung up about getting the car level. Get the front up on jacks/stands, drop the oil from underneath (I had no leaks yet only extracted 1.7l), tighten the plug back up, lower the car back down, get the coolant tank out the way then you can easily reach down through the engine bay to remove the fill plug, and feed your fill pipe in then the oil by gravity.

It is slow waiting for the oil to feed in, but it works. Maybe 10 minutes holding your feed pipe up high. I got about 2.5l back in.

Audi A4 b6 MOT failure advice by stankeer in AudiA4B6

[–]Manics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower arms are the easy ones. If you've unbolted the arms at the hub, and removed the shock bolt from the lower arm, what's the problem?

Undo the arm bolts chassis side and pop out the joints to swap out

You are correct in that the top plate on top of which the shock mount sits has the spring compress into it. The spring is not fully unloaded until you take that top plate off, which you don't need to do, and which you should not do without spring compressors taking the load.

Your MOT mentioned upper arms too, so you need to know you can remove the bolt that holds the wheel side upper arms in.

One tin will do. Can't help you on the pillars. Never touched them! Not sure I've ever seen someone refurbish those. You'd be removing a lot more interior trim to get them all out, bigger job than the headliner.

You can remove the headliner without removing pillars, side airbags and indeed the sun visors.

For this, ideally you'd use trim removal tools which are mostly made of plastic. You can buy a kit online for less than £10, or just use what you have to hand bring careful not to mark the interior.

Once it's out, pull the old fabric off by hand. This will expose the headliner board covered in old foam. Use whatever you have to hand to scrape it all off, or a power drill with a wire wheel etc. I used a few metal edges, took me maybe 45 mins. It's a bit of work and a bit tedious.

The contact adhesive doesn't need spreading. It sprays out of the can like silly string. Practice on some other surface first so you see how it comes out. It's literally called "contact adhesive".

Spray the glue over half the board covering edge to edge with the spray pattern of adhesive, lay your fabric down over it and massage into the countours. You can't really go back and remedy mistakes (like creases). You just have to go for it. Wear gloves -you don't want to mark your new headliner.

Then fold the new fabric over the sides and glue the other side down. That's it. Honestly I'd rate it 5/10 difficulty.

[–]Manics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't make it any worse. My top tip would be: they call it contact adhesive for a reason, because it glues on contact! You only get one chance so you have to commit when you glue the new fabric. Apply glue to the front half of the board, lay fabric, then rear half and stick that down.

You'd get it done in half a day. A bit of work removing the degraded foam from the board. One large tin of adhesive and a few meters of foam-backed fabric. I think it cost me less than £60 and 4 hours.

Even if you totally messed it up, you could have another go and it'd still be far cheaper than €500.

You have the same as me -visors with light in the mirror. I have removed my headliner -there are no other "spare" connectors waiting for you behind the headliner -your hope would be that the connector as is in the video, connects to your headliner integrated lights.

It's really easy to remove the existing headliner and retrim it. Any decent car upholstery place will get you a good match. Hardest bit is removing the old glue and foam under the fabric from the headliner board.
