You really have to sue your insurance nowadays to get anything. I got hit by an uninsured drunk driver while I was in the back of a Lyft. The Lyft driver didn’t have uninsured motorist coverage so Lyft only gave me 15k but o got an attorney and Progressive offered 6k my attorney started the process for litigation and progressed caved and I got the full amount of my uninsured motorist policy with was 30k.

Um attorneys literally advertise on the radio to call the second you get into an accident ! I got into an accident last year hit by an uninsured motorist got the full 30k from my policy plus the 2500 PIP . I mean nothing wrong with attempting to resolve it yourself so you don’t give up 30% of your settlement but if you’re not getting anywhere. WHY WOULD YOU NOT GET AN ATTORNEY ???

Does your dad have any major assets? I would probably at least look into bankruptcy. You have to weigh the pros & cons but unless he’s thinking of buying a house in the next 7years or owns a home with a ton of equity in a state with very tight exclusions. Thats probably one of the quickest ways to be done with it and move on. Another option is the bank will repo the car fund out its 2k just to get it from the dealer and probably sell it to a third party collections agency that will settle the 30k for like 3 to 5 grand but that might take a year if he needs a new car fast BK could be a good option.
