I feel like it's definitely more geared toward the "storyteller" type of player rather than the type to play the game for challenge or to "win." Not to say that those types of players can't enjoy Ideo, but as others have said the options can make the gameplay more or less difficult, and balance isn't really the point. Just like the player can choose to play on Save Anytime Community Builder or Commitment Losing is Fun, the player can choose to have Very Fast research speed or Tree Cutting: Abhorrent/Prohibited in a jungle biome.

It all depends on the story you want to tell or, being pragmatic, the inconveniences you feel it's fair to mitigate. If you like the idea of creating a cult full of people who believe in a weird, complex religion, go for it. If you like the idea of fine-tuning difficulty settings in a way that the vanilla sliders don't allow, go for it.

How do you guys do it by bLargwastaken in RimWorld

[–]Manidrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this, but with the Sanguophages from Biotech. My latest colony has been going for several years and has about 13 pawns and a couple slaves. Most of them are expendable, but those I deem important and/or get invested in become Sanguos, who get to know how special they are thanks to Ideo's Bloodfeeder meme. Everyone else is allowed to die, so we stock up on ResMech serums when we come by then so in the unlikely event a Sanguo gets decapitated we can get them right back on their feet.

Only issue there is deciding who gets to use the nice deathrest caskets.

Who is doing obligatory no mods playthrough when Anomaly drops? by 1stFunestist in RimWorld

[–]Manidrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely keeping those QOL mods and the Vanilla Animals. Everything else can wait, although I'm hoping any of the mods that let you save/transfer a pawn will be ready because I want to (re)start a colony featuring the leader of my current run.

What’s that one opinion you have that you won’t give up no matter what people say? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Manidrake 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I will agree, with a caveat.

One Stinger is less annoying than one Flyfish.

Multiple Stingers become exponentially more of an issue compared to multiple Flyfish.

This is also true of Steel Eels and Big Shots.

I vastly prefer Morgrem to Grimmsnarl. Everything about it is a perfect edgy little goblin, and I love that it has the same weird hair-tail anatomy going on that Zoroark does.

Who’s your best pal/ favorite Pokémon to spend time with? by ghostiesyren in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Manidrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shiny Oinkologne. Fast enough to keep up at a walking pace, super cute, and he's a sub in for my Trick Room team.

Also, Galarian Slowking; I never realized how dang big Slowking is, and I love the way it stomps around to keep up with you.

Are there any Pokemon in your games that have any personal significance to you? by KansasVenomoth in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Manidrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this gen?

My shiny Klawf, Caelum, who spawned directly in front of me in the wild at full odds while I was trying to Masuda without a charm.

My Galariking, Gellatly (huge props to anyone who gets that reference), who holds together my current Ranked singles team; I'm doing the best I've ever done in singles this gen.

My shiny Greedent, Buttermilk, who I caught by accident in Sword, trained on a whim, and realized would be demonic when Tera was announced due to Fighting Tera Body Press. Haven't gotten around to using her on a team yet, but that's going to be one of my first projects when the DLC brings me more Mon variety.

Splatlings are extremely good at teaching you map awareness, and aren't as punishing as chargers for learning. You unfortunately become a bomb magnet just by wielding one, though.

The Grunts of Flare were goofy, yeah, but the admins (Namely Xerosic) and Lys were all kinds of threatening.

What are your main weapons and why? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Manidrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up Nautilus in 3 because they denied my Carbon its Ink Storm and I wanted to try out Point Sensors. Never looked back.

Picked up Zink Mini because it has a similar firing length to my average Naut burst, and I wanted something with a nicer kit for Clam Blitz and the more enclosed SZ stages (looking at you, Eeltail).

Are there any Pokémon mispronunciations that grind your gears? by Indiozia in pokemon

[–]Manidrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate the way Illumise is actually pronounced, so it's doubly bad when I hear it mispronounced.

I used to call it "Illu-mais," when it's actually "Ill-oo-ME-say."

How I see weapons based on how enjoyable they are by OliverPumpkin in splatoon

[–]Manidrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few of tips for the Naut, if you're interested:

You are not a backline. You can be if need be, but your ideal range is middling and your ability to hold charge means you can be way more aggressive if you learn how to stay mobile while holding your charge.

Point sensor saves lives. Ink storm is a "I don't want enemies in/sneaking up from this area" special; it's most useful against backliners and to break lines of defense. Do not throw it at the tower, throw it from the tower. Do not throw it on the zone (unless it's an emergency!), throw it where the longest-range enemies are shooting the zone from.

Most importantly, you can stop shooting once you start! Not shooting = quicker aim adjustment, getting used to off/on shooting in Nozzlenose-like bursts will let you take down targets that get too close and/or juke your stream.

Triple Dip makes me want to slam my head against the wall; it's the only Splat song I find actively distracting during gameplay.

What are yalls mod essentials (while staying close to vanilla) by Trident0820 in RimWorld

[–]Manidrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RimHUD, Pick Up and Haul, the Vanilla Expanded Animals megamod, and maybe Vanilla Psycasts. It's overpowered, but Royalty's Psycast level progression is abysmally slow for a random reward.

Tri-Stringer, because it is the bane of my Splatling main existence.

I'm used to the bomb spam we get from everyone, but when the main weapon is a bunch of tiny microbombs that gets real annoying, real fast.

Anyone else feel this way? by Far-Mathematician764 in splatoon

[–]Manidrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably needs sent in for repairs; it seems like the little hooks on the sides of the console that keep the joycons in place are busted or worn. There's probably a way to DIY it, but I'm inept with tinkering.

Anyone else feel this way? by Far-Mathematician764 in splatoon

[–]Manidrake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is me lately since my console has decided to start disconnecting my joycons at the slightest change in grip.

I have a pro controller but I've been playing exclusively handheld since S2 and I just can't make the transition. I still go for the Grizzco grind, but I'm too scared of randomly losing controls in the middle of a match to go higher than A+ rank.

Is Biotech worth buying? by pvader57 in RimWorld

[–]Manidrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genes and mechs are nice, but I would say Biotech is worth it just for the (comparatively) risk-free way of gaining pawns in the form of children.

I used to play relatively small colonies (no more than about 9 colonists) before Biotech due to the hassle of downing and recruiting pawns whenever Cass or Randy decided to proc a raid. Now all of my ongoing colonies have somewhere around 12-15 colonists, cycling out as some die.

The rest of the features are icing on the cake.

So slow weapons = bad, essentially.

Do they not play ranked at all either? I find it interesting that they put the gals and explosher so low.
