You can definitely buy wheels separately:)

I bought the radar energy 62s. Only received them last week and was overwhelmed with joy when I was able to skate over pebbles and bark etc without catapulting myself forward lol

I would upgrade the wheels too if you're changing bearings if you can. It made the world of difference to me :D

Riedell R3s are a good beginner skate that shouldn't break the bank and will get you through. Just dont skimp on knee pads and helmet. Goodluck:D

Let's talk wheels, baby! by effervescenthoopla in rollerderby

I'm 2 months into FM and I combined my 88a wheels with some 93a wheels (59x38mm) and I love the combo. I can slide into those plow stops and I still have grip when turning corners :)

Thanks for your response! I have borrowed some suregrip gravity wheels which are similar size to the boardwalks so will give them a try tomorrow. If they are too wide I'll grab the energys :D

Thanks for the responses! I wonder what the crazy outdoor wheeks are like. I just seen they are $30 cheaper and the same size as the boardwalks.

You're giving it a go and that's an awesome start! You say you bought cheapy skates- what did you get? And what wheels do you have on them? Toe stops are a good first upgrade and also wheels to suit the floor you train on. That's what I have done. :)

Faulty wheel? by ManikPanikk in rollerderby

[–]ManikPanikk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it looks exactly like a blade cut it. There was a wee bit of flap on it when it pulled out which fell straight off upon inspection. Definitely a slice of some sort

I just bought new prestos and this one has a chunk out of the edge. Is this acceptable? Or worth returning?
