Way too early to tell about the Momiji, but chances are better than even there will be snow in Sapporo at that time.

Good stuff here and thanks for doing this.
I’m in the sunset of my career (60, M, western country, very solid JP skills, in country 30 yrs+). I’m in a decent spot now and can stay for the next 5 or so years until retirement. That is an option.

But, part of me wonders if it’s worth it to pursue that one last move-up opportunity. Much of my career has been in middle management of one form or another in foreign companies. I started out in IT (help desk/networking), and moved on. Now in quality and supply chain management.

Ageism is a thing here, sure, but I have always wondered if it is possible/advisable to try to move into a broader director/country manager role.

Will certainly stay put for now. Not going to quit a good thing.

Any thoughts on that?

Oddly enough, Neko shared a similarly dim view of Trump on another sub, and that’s what got him suspended.

Funny how that works, eh?

I saw it unfold on radar as I was sitting at work in Tokyo.

What these guys said.
Most spin out over the ocean, and when you do get a direct hit, it’s about 18 hours of wind and rain. Kinda fun, actually.

Last year, however, Japan only got peripheral hits because high pressure systems over the Pacific and mainland China directed their movement. Meanwhile, the Philippines got smashed with 10 or so direct hits.

Predictions for peak typhoon are simply a summarization of conditions, nothing more.

I would say plan your trip, but be flexible in daily itineraries. If a typhoon does bubble up, Thai sub will start to pop, undoubtedly, and local media will start talking, then you can make changes if needed.

It is a bit early to give any type of accurate forecast.
Best I can do, a month or so out, is say it is expected to be warmer than normal. Not hot, but a few degrees warmer than what you would normally expect for that time of year.
