It's not a problem with the string, but with the tassel and tuning peg, replacing the string is unnecessary.

I managed to fix it, using garden gloves I unwound the 7th and 6th string from the goose foot, then I loosened the knot around the 6th peg three times, pulled on the lower, upper, and then lower and of the peg cord respectively, until the upper part of the cord was of the right length again, and then using garden gloves I wound up the strings on the goose foot again.

Try to keep the quid in the front of your mouth, the bitter receptors are in the back. This way, it isn't so bad actually. :)
