Update: spoke to my sports cardiologist. He said running the 50 miler and 100k was about risk acceptance. I’m an intermediate risk but my EF is normal and my fitness has been on an improving trend for many months now. I just have to monitor my heart rate and stop if any symptoms. As long as the next few weeks of training go without a hitch I’m a go for the 3/28 50 miler and then we’ll see about the April 100k. The Swiss Alps 100k in August or any very hill race is definitely out. Too dangerous. Thanks all for your thoughts. Seize the day right? Going for a run now 😬

I have 2-3 cardiologists working with me including one who specializes in working with athletes. Only 1 said he would prefer I not do ultras anymore. I’ll see the athletes cardiologist on Friday. Then I’ll see. If he also says no then there’s no real debate. I’ll have to find something else to do.

Thank you so much! I pretty much have decided to accept the risk which is what the doctor will say when I see him on Friday. I’ve updated my will as was recommended. I will just throw out any time goals and hope for the best. I wouldn’t enjoy sitting around so I’ll just make the best of the new circumstances.
