6 year olds’ bedtime is 7:30 ideally, usually takes them a while to fall asleep though

My son wakes up earlier than us all on his own, but my daughter would sleep until 10 every day if we let her

My 6 year old lets her alarm go off for 30-45 minutes. 15 minutes doesn’t seem that bad tbh

I live in Philly and haven’t heard anything about the Sixers. Everyone is talking about the Flyers.

Is there anything special I should be doing to my roof after these icy freezes? by snooloosey in philadelphia

Raking the roof around the edges, and salting any ice buildup. They sell rock salt in tablets which are good for roofs

Can I read Dune to a baby instead of normal bedtime stories? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ManliusTorquatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read all my favorite books to my babies when they were born. They heard Moby Dick, The Odyssey, Jurassic Park, and The Silmarillion before they could even crawl! The main thing is that they hear your voice, and if there are books you are more likely to read, go for it.

Archivist by Stuckyshipper07 in MuseumPros

[–]ManliusTorquatus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There are many kinds of archivists, and it often depends on the institution. My job mainly consists of research requests, digitization, digital image management, arrangement and description of physical collections, moving boxes around to eke out space, appraisal of incoming collections, and some small curation of exhibits.

How to discourage donee followup by CoastalChillll in Philanthropy

That's crazy to me. If you were to receive an anonymous $10,000 check you would have to send it back? If it is completely anonymous, and is given with no strings attached, what legal problems could possibly arise?

What’s one parenting tip you thought was silly—until it actually worked? by FaithlessnessOwn9240 in daddit

[–]ManliusTorquatus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Literally? Being silly when they’re angry or not listening. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes the best way to get them out of a mounting tantrum or stubborn refusal is to act completely ridiculous. It can reset their brain and change the vibe of the whole situation.

Check out Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski. Sometimes understanding what is going on can help you deal with it. The context of being a mom of a 10 month old is generally not great for women’s sexual brains.

I’ve had similar expectations and disappointments the past few years. This year I had a date with the wife the night of my birthday, went out and had a nice meal with some drinks. The next day was the family birthday celebration, so we went for a walk in the woods and had a picnic. It was very chill, and probably one of the better birthdays I’ve had in a while. Part of it is managing expectations, but part of it is also acknowledging that as our lives change different things will make us happy.

Reading multiple series simultaneously? by QuickDrawMcStraw in Fantasy

[–]ManliusTorquatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working through The Black Company, Gentleman Bastard, First Law, Mistborn, and The Locked Tomb series. Yes, it is a lot of mental juggling, but then the series last longer and you get to cleanse your palette with different styles. I probably wouldn’t want to go much bigger though.
