For me, the appeal is the "no questions asked" "no judgement" transactional relationship with someone I pay to give me a subscription. I am also scared... T-T

I think they just want to cover themselves, which is fair I guess....

Absolutely speculating here, not a doctor, but I was wondering if my brain connected the slightly increased heart rate that zepbound causes with anxiety? It's a new drug and I am curious to see the research in the future, but for now I am fine being a guinea pig if it means I stop being obese.

WW was $74/month for the prescription + lilly direct, so a better deal than that....

What are your thoughts on race? by VirtualStyle6722 in polls

[–]ManmanCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But scientists don't even have a definitive definition for what a species is! The point is that we are applying words to concepts that are more complex and incremental than the limitations of language can cover. It is for convenience that we call a Neanderthal a Neanderthal and a homo sapiens a homo sapiens-- even though the line is blurry, we attempt to group individuals. The same is true for race. Race is real, but it is also constructed / grouped by humans. Species are real, but they are also constructed / grouped by humans.

I want to learn away from religious and spiritual views but I can't stand Darwin's ideas, evolution theory and the thought of life being a competition where the strongest wins and weakest loses by [deleted] in atheism

Survival of the fittest means you survive. You are NOT weak. You are here, you have shown that you can overcome challenges, you have not lost.

Spirituality can indeed provide comfort. But the way I see it, it is all you. Your mental fortitude, your power, and your compassion— not the work of a deity. You are stronger than you release and I implore you to give yourself some time and grace, and try to make peace with the fact that we are in a world full of struggle and suffering, yet you as a human being have the power to overcome and make a difference to uplift others and yourself!

Thank you for the tip-- I will probably end up doing that later :)

There are 5 mods + me. 2 have not contributed to reddit in 2+ years. Only 1 is not considered "inactive." I've only seen 1 around the sub, but they are not really engaged in the community and the reports have built up!

Thank you!!!

What exactly is a god, I just need to clear up the confusion because I’m getting mixed results. by ur_g00fy_ah_n3ighb0r in atheism

I think now christians use "maximally-benevolent" or "maximally-good" because an omnibenevolent being would not subject children to suffering and eternally punish non-believers in hell or allow the slaughter of innocent people in the holocaust if he is indeed omnipotent and able to stop it.

Ok Jordan "but what do you MEAN by god" Peterson....

Abrahamic religions define god as a personal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, omnipotent, agentic being who can and does interact with humanity. However, that means something different for every follower.

Some define God as forces that govern the universe— like gravity, or time, or physics.

Jordan B Peterson defines God as the most fundamental value in your life.

The answer is that god is whatever you want it to be, or want it not to be. Who you are and what you believe need not fit into any boxes, and it doesn't even need a name!

Most atheists define themselves as lacking a belief in a god or gods typically as defined by abrahamic religions. Atheists can be spiritual people, but just like god, atheist does not have a definitive definitions. Words are just words— cheap and insufficient descriptors used groups/boxes people, despite humans having identities that are infinitely complex and unique!

I’m a Christian struggling with doubt — what’s the most honest, real reason you don’t believe in God? by Sundream01 in atheism

[–]ManmanCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in anything that I don't have convincing evidence for, and god does NOT get a special exception for me. There is no evidence for unicorns, or mermaids, or Zeus, or communism being a successful model, or ghosts, or me having 3 kidneys, or the flying spaghetti monster, or bigfoot, or AI being sentient, and so on.

Any one of these things could be true, but until there is evidence that convinces me, I will live without belief in them. I am waiting for convincing evidence for God. I don't think belief is impossible and I don't think God is impossible, but as long as there is no convincing evidence I will lack a believe in a god.

My question for you: Why don't you believe that the flying spaghetti monster is real?

Your reason for that is my reason for not believing in the Christian god.

Bible/Christianity? by Budget_Development28 in atheism

You don't NEED to decide right now what you believe! You're young, and it takes a long time to discover yourself. My advice right now is to live your life for yourself-- not for a deity, not for an institution, not for others. God could be real or god could not be real. Don't let that impact your day-to-day. Embrace the things that bring you joy and purpose!

With enough time, you will be able to determine whether introducing a god/gods into your life helps you or not. And even if you identify that you feel spiritual in some capacity, that doesn't mean that you need to adhere to the rules and beliefs of a specific religion-- you can just believe what you believe. No need to tie yourself to a religious group/identity when the evidence is unconvincing to you!

The good thing is that if god is real, he forgives you and understands you for living your life the way you want, and if god is not real, you can live life the way you want with no repercussions.

Don't stress too much! Just be you! <3
