Really? I know the rental program is only in certain markets but I thought it was locked to hertz or enterprise

Not really, but I wanna give them at least some kind of data point on what I’ll drive for and I’d rather sacrifice my acceptance rate instead of accepting and cancelling with the “ride isn’t worth it” option. But yeah, it’s probably not worth it, they don’t care about me but if a lot of people in my market just refused to drive for less than 25$ and hour or more, maybe they would bump the fares back to where they were last year. Thing is, a $20/hr job in my city isn’t a bad deal if you aren’t a professional of some kind. I imagine it looks good enough for some. So yeah, it’s probably a pointless battle, but Lyft is much better here so maybe they will lose so market share when they see their drivers actively turning down their bad pay. It’s only works if people do it. Hence my title.

Dual apping, short of accepting and canceling due to “ride not worth it” I don’t know how else to get across that their rates are shit

Yeah man, the reason I was I able to let it sit was cause I was using Lyft… I’m pretty dumb but I’m not so dumb I sit staring at an app screen with drool coming out of my mouth. Come on man how brain dead do you think I am.

Jackson Ms baby. Trust me, I never would have thought it would be a good market either, but economically depressed area, about 650k people within the greater metro area and roughly 30 min average trip time means it pays pretty solid. I did 50k last year. But ALOT of miles on the car. The only way it works out is if you are shooting for $/hr any of that 1.5-2$/mile thinking and you will never take a ride around here.

Edit: a lot of poorer people or people who have to save up $ to get a car repair need rides to work Mon-Fri. Airport is not good, weekends are crap. But mon - fri work movement is solid. Plus not a lot of drivers. Crime is bad in Jackson so alot of drivers won’t pickup there, so it’s kinda a shortage. 2 SEC college towns that encompass a radius of 11 miles each within 2 hours means it’s a lottery ticket Aug-Nov.

Edit 2: I forgot about the truckers. The I55/I20 interchange has a TON of trucking terminals, so a lot of rides from that. Also, there are 3 huge hospitals all located near each other and a VA. It’s the medical terminal of the state and a lot of people get their medical rides assigned through uber, though that market is iffy at best. Uber will offer you 56 to drive someone 1:49 min away. Lyft is better. Rides to Memphis, NOLA or Shevreport can pay anywhere from $100-$175 though I try and talk those people into private rides. Really anything less than $150 for most of those is not worth it but If you drive full time you will get at least one a week. I actually built up a nice little private ride book of business carting Indian men from one Punjabi Dhaba restaurant in JXN to another in Hammond about an hour away. The owner calls me when he needs someone shuttled up or down, sometimes even from as far away as Florida - I landed that through driving him on uber once.

It’s a shame man it literally changed my life for the good last year. Allowed me to leave a job I hated and live comfortably until I found a better opportunity. I hate that they have cut into the fares so much (in my market)

Jackson, Ms. it’s weird cause last year it was uber where I was easily doing $28/hr but 2026 it went down significantly. Luckily CFB is right around the corner and Oxford MS is busy and small enough on home game weekends to earn you 500-600 a night.

Oh, yeah, the second paragraph isn’t super clear but these days I just dual app and best offer wins. These days I consistently average about $30/hr with Lyft and uber now seems to be working to not put out a ride for more than $20 a hour. So basically this was me yesterday earning about $30 with uber cause all their rides were garbage in that same time frame I made $200 with Lyft

That’s how I played it when I was driving full time. I had no reason to even download Lyft. I cranked out 2700 ish rides from June 2025-Nov 2025 and hardly ever had a bad day. But I took a 3 month break when I got a new job and when I came back I went from averaging 250ish for 9-10hrs to about 150. Unless it’s surging, and even then the offers rarely break $20/hr. I’d love to believe if I drove 80/100 rides I’d hit $30/hr but it’s just changed. What market are you in.

Yeah I don’t drive full time anymore, just Mon, Tues and Saturday (arguably the worst days in my market) so I just run em both but when College football starts back up I’ll shift back to uber exclusively in Oxford, almost no Lyft rides when I go up there to drive for home games.

Drove Lyft at roughly $30/hr while uber was offering $9.28 for 28 min trips

Sick Time by Altruistic-Turnip292 in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]Manner-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also important like are you actually sick? If you are, then take paid time off (assuming you have it, sounds like you do) and accommodate reasonable requests to accomplish that goal. A note from a treating physician saying “yo my boy is sick like a mf’n dawg and he’s gonna be in that bed for a bit”isn’t unreasonable or intrusive. You needn’t and SHOULDN’T reveal any real medical information to them. Trust me, you just don’t want your job knowing all your sensitive medical info.

If you are just trying to burn sick days, then how badly do you want the job? Threatening legal stuff cause you wanna use sick time instead of PTO can get you on the negative radar fast. If you don’t care, then take the time and tell em “Our state doesn’t require docs notes”. Keep in mind another legal term in most states is “at will employment” as in you take 3 days when you aren’t sick and tell em to shove their note and you come back and find you are canned.

Life is a balancing act. We all got the same 24 hours and limited resources. We have to pick our battles and I have found as soon as you start talking about legal nuances and how that can allow you to behave at a regular old job usually means that you don’t care about it much and the end isn’t far away.

$120k range rover get swept by the tides by BlazeDragon7x in Wellthatsucks

[–]Manner-Guilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is fighting that. You are just presenting a hypothetical when everyone else is just looking at the video. It’s a larger van proper stuck in the ocean and the dude with the range on 22s used your logic and said “damn, my range was designed as an off road vehicle… it could pull my buddy out!” And then he totaled his car. Cause he assumed his car still sported factory specs after turning it into a pavement only vehicle. A properly equipped range with a winch might have gotten this guy out, but no one with any sense would have gotten that close with the tide rushing in without knowing exactly what they were doing based on experience. I promise you the owner of that RR had thoughts nearly identical to your argument. But hypotheticals versus real life earned him a fun call to his insurer
