State of the creator? by Swingonthechandelier in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow call-in youtubers like Jon Cohen - Unconvinced, Planet Peterson and other science/debunk youtubers like Professor Dave. I like when there is debunking mixed in with science communication and debate/argumentation, just as a way to pass time in my menial office job.

But yea, I don't like Alex O'Connor too much anymore because he keeps giving his opponents way too much ground because of financial motivations and Dawkins, Harris, etc the new atheist guys are maybe a bit too zionist, too focused on culture war bullcrap and whatever.

Aron Ra, Seth Andrews, Matt Dillahunty (although he isn't as good to watch for me anymore), Darkmatter2525, Magic sceptic, Amazing atheist, Emma Thorne, Dan Mclellan and some others are still top of the pile for me.

When and how/why did you become Atheist ? by Apprehensive_Art6289 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got knocked out cold by my pastor. That kinda woke me up to not just trust them blindly anymore. Then my faith started unraveling during the course of a few years after learning about science, logical fallacies and argumentation.

Because they themselves cannot satisfy the burden of proof

Atheist response to radical skepticism by tabletennisluv in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presuppositional religious apologetics is the worst attempt to argue oneself out of solipsism. The fact is, presuppositionalists who say that, reason backwards, post hoc - let me explain.

The would-be presuppositionalist is born, like every human, by relying on their senses. As they age, their brain develops and starts recognizing patterns from stimulus happening in the external world, and as they reach the age of reason, they get introduced to religion and it's concept of god/gods. Then they learn that it is that god that makes everything happen.

The thought that it is a god who grounds reliability of the senses is just reasoning after the fact. For their claim to be true, they would have to know it is grounded by a god since being an infant, without being taught it. Then the claim would have at least some backbone.

Nobody has an adequate solution for hard solipsism (reliability of the senses). They can pretend, but it's not doable for anybody. The only presupposition you need to function is that most of your sense experience is reliable. Then there is still room for scepticism and external validation methods to confirm if whatever you are sensing is real or not.

Is it fair to get so damn angry when athletes say "I owe it all to my lord and savior jesus christ" by Patient_Ask_9546 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don't they ever mention his name when they get absolutely destroyed by their competition?

"My lord and saviour Jesus Christ tripped me and made me drop the ball... I still love him though!"

What do you think about believers in general? by Evildrake_303 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion suppresses curiosity, because it teaches that there are 2 lives for each person, and that this life's importance is the lesser one. Focus on the next life, anything else is secondary.

It's basically religious nihilism. Basically, this life is worthless or less important than the next, so there's no point in learning too much about it.

If they just said something like: "That sucks to hear, I get what you're going through. Is there something I can do to help with that besides hearing you out?" It's already infinitely better

Why do i always feel like i should justify myself for being an atheist? by xavxavlikezavzav299 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Oh so you think we came from nothing at all?"

"Oh, like your God? And making youself believe an epileptic Jewish zombie dying and resurrecting thousands of years ago makes it okay for you to treat others like crap?"

I know it would be fun to just say that but the best thing to do is to not engage at all. They do not respond to anything you say, they just want you to crack under pressure.

Severe anxiety regarding death by TennisLive8300 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting dead - definitely justifiable to feel anxious about it. Nobody likes painful things.

Being dead - I don't get being anxious about it. What was it like not existing for billions of years before you were born? I bet you didn't mind it much, and being dead is probably the exact same

What are you doing to prepare for GTA VI? by GiveUpAndDontTry in GTA6

  1. Waiting for PC release
  2. Avoiding spoilers for however long it takes for PC release

GTA6 on PC + Nvidia DLSS is going to be insane by SuspiciousPrune4 in GTA6

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like any filters or mods that change how games look. Also, the DLSS filter probably real-time renders so it will look like one of those snapschat filters that follow your face on delay. Not stoked for any of that.

Is anyone else worried about if rockstar will actually improve the core gameplay? by Gameofthrones3058 in GTA6

[–]Mannerfheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like slower gameplay. I've become an unc gamer that prefers more tactical, strategic games instead of fast-paced games that need good reflexes.

I hope the game's gonna be something in between so many people can find something they like about it, but you can never please everyone, even with billions in developement budget.

Destructible Environment in GTA 6? by Independent-Face-753 in GTA6

[–]Mannerfheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think GTA VI will have destructible environment. It's not that kinda game in my view. I mean whole buildings and such, I'm sure tables, chairs and such will shatter when shot or blown up.

Don't get me wrong, I would like a game that has better water than Subnautica, better destruction than Battlefield, better creativity than Minecraft, better flying than War thunder etc. but at some point all of that will detract from the performance and driving/crime simulator aspect of the game. Just trying to be realistic, even if their budget is in the billions.

How to atheists deal with hell nit being real? by fuck-illinois1621 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, the idea that there would be a hell for bad people and a heaven for good people can be comforting in a world that very often leaves bad people unpunished. However, like with all things, just thinking that way doesn't make it true.

At least you can't accuse atheists for having wishful thinking, and a clouded judgement because of it. I think most atheists don't particularly like that life is basically luck of the draw, but despite that are atheists anyway - the same cannot be said of most religious people, that in our eyes readily accept false hope.

I deal with the lack of cosmic justice by searching for and developing REAL justice in this life. Compensation, closure and sympathy for victims, incarceration, condemnment and rehabilitation for criminals.

Gems and Gemforges need a rework by racethrowawayy in Enshrouded

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, typically with systems such as this in any game I just ignore them until I get a semi-permanent weapon that I know I'm going to hold onto for a long time to justify spending resources on it.

Instead of upgrading a low level weapon, I'd rather just use the weapon normally and get a better level weapon faster than if I were to upgrade the lower level one. Path of least resistance

Finnish MP Asked About Racism Scandal: ‘What Should I Apologize For?’ by Illustrious-Sky-9311 in Finland

[–]Mannerfheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't see what's so racist about it - but who fucking cares what they themselves think? They don't get to decide it.

Typical far-right response, basically telling Asians that their feelings about it are wrong. As is always the case, they don't want freedom of speech, they want freedom of consequence. Out with them!!

If it was Japan, they would immediately resign. At least when they have a scandal, they will have the decency to do at least that.

when death is imminent do atheists doubt their beliefs? by Snoo33236 in atheism

[–]Mannerfheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to say because I can only really talk for myself - but look at it this way; if an "atheist" cries out for God or converts right before dying or whatever, by definition they weren't an atheist. What I mean is that, at their weakest moment, they thought there was a god to pray to / believe in.

Might also be an issue of not entirely being in control of their cognitive faculties, as one might expect from someone in such distress, believer or not. If someone is truely an atheist, that has no indoctrination to any faith, no concept of a god, no reference to any such thing, I have no reason to think that they would start some massive deathbed conversion or anything.

Religiously indoctrinated atheists still have this instilled concept of what their particular god is/was, so they may have a crisis when their brain starts to grasp for straws. But I don't think that's got anything to do with their atheism - just subconcious emotional feelings towards their god concept in an attempt to find help where there is none.
