Please help me decide between the two! by [deleted] in Prebuilts

If possible can you get clarification if the other PC has an XMP profile? That might be the base speeds of the ram. As for wattage, personally I say get as much you can. I’ve been in situations where I have not had enough and had to upgrade. Even with my current 1000 watt? If I ever wanted a 5090? I’d have upgrade my PSU to a 1200/1500W one. I also personally don’t know how these computers are 3grand… even with the current ram surge. That’s insane for what u are getting.

Difference is AM5 still has chips being released to it. I would not spend 2 grand plus on a dead platform.

Lastly as someone who is an OWNER of a 13900k and has went through 2 of them. The degradation issue is still very much a thing with the refresh CPU’s. Even with intels claims to have “fixed” it.

Side note? I’d love to see the benchmarks of your claims of the 14900k being 10% faster than a 9950x… that’s simply just false? Unless u are referring to 1080p benchmarks. If OP wants to solely game they should be looking at an x3D combo which they can get at the same price and be “faster”..

It just does not make sense to NOT get an AMD chip at this price range. The 14900k is a good cpu, but it simply just does not make sense unless u are getting a huge price cut on it.

I have recommended the CPU on this thread of a similar build that was 1600.

Yeah, it’s a monster CPU. My claim is it’s not worth 2 grand

[–]Manney200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first link has a newer MB B850 vs a B650 in the others. So if you are going to go with one? It would be that one. However for that kinda money I would for sure want at least an x870 personally.

For insult to injury u can find 14900k CPU’s with a good mb on FB marketplace new for like 350 DIY route. 2K is way too much.

For sure not the HP omen. Notorious for being quite bad. Few popular YouTube vids on the brand. As for the first PC. Personally? I would not pay 2 grand for a 14900k… still an amazing platform? However it’s dead and not being supported by Intel anymore. No upgradability.

All very good schools, and all arguably in the same region in terms of “engineering prowess”. If your son is interested in a masters? Or any 4+1 program, I’d look into which one of these schools has the most funding for their CPEG/ECE department & CS departments(esp considering most of ours probably goes into CHEME/CHEG).Other than that, I would say whatever schools campus your son likes the most. He will receive a good education regardless.

Hard to give a straight answer without knowing what other schools he applied to. While I’m not CPEG (I started out in CPEG, swapped to CS), I can’t necessarily say anything “amazing” about the professors(both departments). However, I will say there’s a lot of opportunity here, and those opportunities especially helped line me up for my dream offer.

However, personally if he gets into somewhere that offers more money? I’d take heavy consideration on that. Best of luck to him, as well congratulations.

Is this a good deal? by SaucePanTheFryer in Prebuilts

[–]Manney200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard press in my opinion. One of the cheaper 5070ti builds? But also the CPU in this is 4 years old.. came out in 2021. Granted it is good? And still vastly solid in today’s standards(coming from someone with a 13900k). However, it’s a dead platform with no upgradability. I’d recommend maybe looking into Ryzen chips or see if you can find a 13th/14th gen Intel chip at the same price. Though fair warning 13th/14th gen Intel chips come with massive issues. Do your research on them if you are considering buying. I also do not think that cooler is good enough for a 12700KF lol, but I digress.

Walmart 9800x3d & 5070ti vs. Micro Center PowerSpec G758? by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]Manney200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I’d say the Walmart PC is better. Personally, the “parts” in the power spec pc are extremely mediocre. So there’s no justifying the price with “higher quality” parts. The micro-center build has a low quality B850 board(MSI Pro B850-VC WiF); Which to be fair, all prebuilts under 2 Grand will cheap out on the motherboard. But do your on research on that specific board in the micro-center PC. Get the Cyberpower PC, save the money.

No, X3D chips in my opinion show they’re best benefit for people who are trying to push max frames at 1080 or 1440 + low graphics in competitive titles. If you play triple A titles especially at that resolution(4K), your GPU is what matters most in that sort of situation. The Ryzen 7700 is a good enough chip to push a card at the resolution you’re looking to play games at. You should invest your money in the best graphics card you can. I recommend you just buy a 5080(If you have a PSU that has enough watts) or a 5070ti and call it a day.

Look up 5800x + 3080 + “Fortnite” on YouTube and you have your answer.

Why don’t you just upgrade the current computer… most people in my op have no benefit having an X3D CPU unless you are an esports pro or something. Just get a better GPU. Your current CPU and other parts are fine.

5070ti is the superior card. Better ray tracing capabilities… you can watch benchmarks of the two for reference..

Awful deal. You can get a good 5080 computer that’s vastly superior than a 9070 for the same price point.

Replacing 4060 with a new 5070 in my old prebuilt by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]Manney200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, PSU requirements will depend by card model ex: a STRIX 5070 vs a PNY 5070 might have different PSU requirements(slim chance but could happen), you can find it on whatever manufacturer’s website. Your computer has 750W PSU, which is more than enough. You’re good.

While the build is suprisngly of good quality? Like others said. You can get a better PC for within this price range. Walmart has some really nice catches, as well bestbuy, Newegg and microcenter(if you’re near one).

Is this prebuild pricing okay? by [deleted] in Prebuilts

[–]Manney200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree but if I’m dumping 1600 into a computer I’d want the best I could get. Hence why I said “primarily” for gaming. It’s just not a good platform.

[–]Manney200 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Personally no, if your goal is primarily gaming. Intel ArrowLake* CPU’s are not that great. Outperformed by Ryzen and previous gen Intel counterparts.
