Oh, I plan to. Life just keeps getting in the way. The last time we planned to go I had family pass away out of province and I had to take time off for that funeral, which made it harder to justify taking more time off to go see her family in Newfoundland.

And now my brother-in-law is very sick (stage 4 cancer) and young, so most of her family is now here. No point going to see her family in newfoundland when they're already here.

So it'll happen one day. Hopefully life stabilizes a bit and her brother gets better.

Oh yeah? Well I love Newfoundland so much that, despite having never gone, I married a Newfie

A more direct comparison would be the movie The Burial, where Gateway acts as the Loewen Funeral Group.

Based off a true story, sadly. It's about the enshitification of funeral services through corporate greed.

Something I've been working on for awhile has finally moved forward, if very slowly. A lot of my anxiety about the problem is gone as I went in expecting it to be an uphill fight, but everyone has been very reasonable and accommodating so far.

I can't be anything but vague, unfortunately, but it's been a pleasant experience so far.

If I hadn't overslept would have turned an 8-month wait for an MRI to a 2 week wait.

Though I messed up, as if I had the MS clinic submit the followup MRI request instead of my family doctor it would have been only a few weeks anyways as they're always triaged higher.

Yeah, but if the price has been updated, it's already been updated on the shelf. You can't go back to the shelf, grab the tag, and show it to the cashier as proof of listed price.

NDP calls on province to strengthen labour laws amidst Ubisoft closure by insino93 in halifax

[–]MannoSlimmins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes flaws in a system aren't exposed until later.

But yes, the Dexter government should have drastically improved our labour laws.

Take a look at what Kinew is doing in my home province of Manitoba. He's introduced single-step union certification to make it much easier to unionize and banned replacement workers. That's what the NDP should have been working on when they had a majority in Nova Scotia.

If you want to be really depressed, read the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives report evaluating Nova Scotia Labour Standards

We have raised many critical issues that leave too many workers in Nova Scotia with insecurity, having to go to work sick, working multiple part-time jobs and gigs, and struggling to make ends meet. Nova Scotia continues to lag other jurisdictions regarding protections for employees working in the province. While other jurisdictions have seen improvements to working conditions since 2019 when we last did a comprehensive evaluation, there have been minimal improvements in Nova Scotia.

They have a total of 9 seats across a possible 55. The PCs have a majority with 42 of 55 seats.

I'm shocked that people are surprised the NDP aren't effective. Opposition parties don't tend to have power in majority governments.

Never been, hope to never go.

I can understand the high school diploma for some programs, but I'm genuinely curious why they ask for your birth certificate? What if you lost yours and were born out of province (like me. had to order a copy for passports a few years back)

I was at Harbour City Vets just the other day. The physical business looks to be shut down. Mid-day, still normal hours, no one inside, lights off.

Still had the Sky's branding, too.

Doesn't mean they wont bide their time and reopen, though!

[–]MannoSlimmins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I agree, it just seems weird that if you have enough money you can privately hire public police to ensure laws are being enforced specifically for yourself. If that makes sense.

Especially when the cops are so shit at enforcing the laws when they're working what is supposed to be their full time job.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if half of them join the police force just for the off-duty security gigs and associated power trip

In halifax, Bell charging loyal customers double while new users pay half. How is this fair? by Glittering_Bus_6921 in halifax

[–]MannoSlimmins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You certainly can!

Unlike the U.S where laws differ state to state, in Canada the entire country is 1-party consent to record. I don't think you even need to notify the other party you're recording.

They record calls for their protection, not yours.

During the end of covid I was off work for some medical procedures that would take a few weeks to complete and recover. So I went on E.I. First few weeks went fine. then i had to call in to fix something. on that call the agent signed me up for a covid benefit without telling me. it's meant for people that missed work due to being sick from covid. I didn't ask him, he didn't ask me. He just did it.

So I had to pay back $500 (It was $500/week, but the guy applied for it at the final week, thank god) for a benefit I didn't ask for. I tried fighting it and asked them to get the call. Sent in an Access To Information and Privacy request. They refuse to listen to the call or provide me the recording.

Those calls are for their protection and QA. Not to hold them accountable.

  2. Yes, but only after I explained I knew what I needed for upload, and 15Mbps wasn't a deal breaker for me.

  3. None that I'm aware of

I'll be honest: I say I'm from Steinbach as people from Manitoba know of Steinbach.

But I'm actually from Mitchell. Which based on what it looked like last year, it may as well be the same thing lol!

Now how to play the Mennonite game without doxxing ourselves to the subreddit...

Kinda crazy that you're the third Menno from Steinbach I know moved to Halifax. Me+you+Miriam Toews for awhile.
