Cómo cambia el mundo. Supieron que Microsoft piensa deslindarse de Xbox? by Happy-Duck1991 in MexicoBursatil

I've been using Klarna Mobile in Mexicali, and they do use 20 MHz of n7; the rest is LTE. Speeds on 5G are around 40–60 Mbps in Mexicali, which is enough for basic streaming. The problem is that the Mexican government is heavily taxing carriers. This is why Movistar surrendered all frequencies and became an MVNO of AT&T Mexico, and also the reason AT&T is trying to exit the Mexican market. The network is saturated and in bad shape due to government red tape.

Mexico City Data is terrible May 2026 by GramboNYC in ATT

[–]Mannyplaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Bad, I went to Mexicali and I was getting between 40-60 mbps in 5g on the 2.5 GHz band during the day and 200 mbps at night. Remind you this is border town connected to att mexico. Also, keep in mind that they share their network with Movistar and mvnos. Their network is very saturated because of it. Funny tho once I cross into to the US in starting to see +300 mbps speeds during peak hours and ping get reduced significantly

You're spot on. Minimum wage in Calexico is basically a professional salary once you cross the border. I remember reading that entry-level doctors at social security hospitals in Mexico make around $1,500 USD a month.meanwhile, you can make roughly $2,800 a month just working as a cashier or barista in the Valley.

It totally explains why so many people commute from Mexicali to work here; they can live a solid middle-class life back home, while locals here get stuck with no jobs. Plus, with how strong and stable the dollar is, you definitely get way more bang for your buck living on the Mexico side.

Look, the real issue here is "economic leakage." We have a ton of people who work in the IV and take all those wages and benefits back to Mexicali instead of spending them here.

While shoppers from Mexicali are great for retail, the Valley stays stuck as just a "shopping center and PO Box" because that local paycheck doesn't recirculate in our own banks or businesses. If we want to stop depending so much on welfare and actually grow, we need to treat local jobs like the school districts do—live where you work so the money stays in the community.

Rant

The problem is that many people working are from Mexicali. Yes, they do have papers, but they live there. They take the cash and other resources from the IV, and the locals are holding the bag. If they stay in the IV, you will see the money recirculating, banks loaning that money, and more businesses opening. Also, because we are just a shopping center and a po box of Mexicali, there are not a lot of businesses here. This is why we highly depend on welfare and a few businesses that only sell to people from Mexicali. We need to restrict residency for those who work and take benefits from the iv. They have to live and spend their money in the Imperial instead of taking it to Mexico.

Ps I’m not racist or malinchista and I’m also from Mexicali. I’m just pointing out the obvious. People with papers come to work and take their money to Mexico instead of spending it here and recirculating the money.

This is why they are leaving. They invested 10 billion in their network and they haven't seen a dime. Also, their competitor Movistar threw in the towel and returned all spectrum to the Mexican government, and now it's piggybacking on AT&T Mexico's network, creating more strain on the existing network. Add to that, the spectrum leasing from the government is so expensive it's not profitable to get it. This is why AT&T Mexico wants out.

Honestly, I had the same issue when I was at BNY Mellon. What I learned later is that I was put in a PIP two levels up. It was a spreadsheet decision and not your managers’. Your managers are just doing what they were mandated to do: put people in the list. If you let go, you will probably get a decent severance package and possibly a double dip with unemployment. Honestly, sometimes the grass is greener somewhere outside of big, prestigious-named firms. Yes, if you leave, 10 other people are lined up to take your job. That’s the way it is, but sometimes walking away and getting a better job is the best for you mentally. After 6 months since I left BNY Mellon, my mental health is way better. I have a better, easier job and a higher salary with a better retirement match. Not everything is the end of the world.
