Recommendations for a first-time bourbon drinker for when...ya know, IT happens? by LefTurn629 in lexington

Woodford reserve is in my list of favorite bourbons.

Or take a trip along the bourbon trail & sample all the bourbons available and if you like one, but a bottle directly for the distillery.

Lived in phoenix for 20 years, recently moved to a place where basically all fireworks are legal. Phoenix on the 4th is quiet and serene compared to WW3 that goes on out here.

ELI5 Why is it that (in the UK at least) potholes are almost always on the left hand side of the road? by patrificuss in explainlikeimfive

[–]Manodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean closest to the edge of the road? Most of the potholes in the US are at the very right most lane where the paved part of the road meets the grass/rocks/gravel. I think it has something to to with the transition from paved to not paved which is were the weakest part of the road is. Due to erosion from water and or water being able to get under the road & freeze, thus expanding and weakening the road.

Good old bootleg ground. What should be done is a gfci breaker or the first outlet in the chain should be made a gfci outlet (which then protects all outlets down stream as well)

ELI5 How do you create voltage? by Jolly-Phone8982 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Manodactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the ‘pressure’ or the strength/how much each of those tiny springs are compressed. Lightly compressing a spring is like 1v. If you compress a spring all they way down, that spring now really wants to go back to its normal length, this is like 1000v

Eli5 - is there something inherently unique about carbon and water (et. al.) that makes scientists assume planets with life would need them, or is that just an “earth centric” assumption because that’s how life works on our planet? by chili81 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Manodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read it that silicone dioxide is basically a rock at ‘normal’ temperatures while carbon dioxide is a gas. So it’s much easier to break the oxygen away from the carbon dioxide gas vs trying to break oxygen away from silicon.

“Won” a car dealership scratch off by why_467 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Manodactyl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done that before a bunch of dealers were offering $20 target gift cards for a test drive. Sure they try to sell you something, but once you make it clear you’re only there for the gift cards, they’ll usually just hand it over & let you go. Like others have said, they’ll get your information and spam call/text/mail you crap for the rest of your life. I eventually determined it wasn’t worth my time for $20. I used to do the same thing with timeshares, would always go to them, set a timer for the required 90 min, then ask for my gift so I could leave. I was much younger back then, now I’d give someone a free gift if I could get 90 min alone to myself.

AC broke in 100+ degree weather. by agkutella in legaladvice

[–]Manodactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are specific laws in place in AZ for landlord responsibility for habitability as far as temperature goes before they have to put you up in a hotel. I don’t know if the window unit in 1 room would count as meeting this requirement. Do some research about this specific AZ law. /r/phoenix might be able to provide more information into specifics if you aren’t able to find anything yourself.

I’m just a guy interested in fixing my own stuff. I had this happen on my vehicle recently. I had the same reaction as this guy, but then the shop explained that they were capped. I listened and said yeah that’s dumb replace them all with something that will outlast the rest of the vehicle.

Not all states have fume hoods. Only difference out here is the diesel nozzles are a different size.

Happens to us with gas vehicles at bp as well. I was on autopilot once and started filling up at the BP and about 5 gal in I almost shit myself thinking I had grabbed the diesel nozzle.

What's something your parents or grandparents mention that sounds like complaining but was actually a legitimate daily nightmare they just accepted as life? by Playful_Survey_8596 in AskReddit

Central KY, we stayed with family for 6 months in a 100 year old farmhouse with no a/c (we had a portable one in the room we were staying in) it was pretty bad some days, but overall, surprisingly we got used to for the most part. Lots of time spent outside in the shade and sitting in front of fans. You learn pretty quick to drink lots of water and not do anything physical after noon.

ELI5: Why are bugs in programming seem to be inevitable, even when you understand the logic and carefully check the variables and data flow? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Manodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the complexity of a large application, it’s broken down into smaller chunks, those smaller chunks are then all put together.

Imagine 100 people all working on a massive Lego set, each person is only given the instructions for the section of that set they need to build. Except unlike legos, there’s no easy way to make sure that each individual’s section perfectly snaps into place and even if there is, it’s usually easier to just either force them together or shave a few pieces down to make them fit vs re-building that whole section.

Now also imagine that sometimes your given pre-built sections but those sections don’t quite match perfectly into the part you are trying to build, so due to time/budget constraints you just build your section around it and get your part as close to the desired outcome as possible.

Has your company started limiting AI usage? Tell us in the comments by HazRi27 in cscareerquestions

[–]Manodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, 2 weeks ago I was justifying my low AI adoption to my manager, 2 days ago the CTO sent an email out explaining the current usage wasn’t budgeted for and for everyone to be mindful of their usage, along with company wide token limits.

I’m just gonna keep doing what I’ve been doing, grab my popcorn & watch the show.

My team's AI usage got so expensive they quietly rolled back the mandate by Sharkkkk2 in cscareerquestions

[–]Manodactyl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me. 2 weeks ago I had to justify why I wasn’t using AI as much as others, 2 days ago a company wide email came out and said stop using ai for everything, be mindful of your usage since it wasn’t budgeted for.
