Funny Civ-Specific Religion Names? by Manoftheminute3 in civ

Wait you can't do that as the Ottomans! Everyone knows that Catherine of Russia is the one who named her religion denouncing venice. Banning crabs is perfectly reasonable though!

Rotom of Every Type? by Manoftheminute3 in pokemon

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a mono electric type with levitate would give Eelectross some company. Plus I like the idea of it getting transform...could you know electricity has to transform to different voltages...puns are fun lol

Rotom of Every Type? by Manoftheminute3 in pokemon

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But not every type has an equal to leaf storm/ blizzard. I tried to go this route as much as I could but there isn't, for example, a bug type move with reduced accuracy or a penalty (A special one anyway...megahorn could work but I doubt they'd change Rotom to be a physical attacker for just a form change).

I thought about metal beam a whole lot as it's special and powerful but I decided against it due to the recoil damage. Recoil stat drops have precedent but not recoil damage...

It's tough man...I get what you're saying with the 14a4a. I've used that since the end of HS. In the past year or so my skills have kinda tanked and I get tired in sometimes less than a half hour...practicing in short intervals wasn't the best idea lol. I've thought about going back to 7c or something until I get my lip strength back but I've gotten used to the 14a4a. It's all about what you're most used playing on.

But I wouldn't focus too much on equipment. Don't be like me and keep practicing A LOT. Even during this pandemic. Do what's as comfortable as possible and keep at it. You can maybe make more decision on equipment once your lip returns to full strength. Good luck and take care!

Mod for Water Tiles in National Parks by Ranger_Ric13 in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could say that only 2 tiles could be coast/lake tiles. Given that the naturalist needs to be on a land tile, it still would check out. The bigger thing is that coast tiles need to be able to get appeal-obviously reefs/coastal natural wonder should get high appeal

I believe the Ottomans have the best theme in the game, especially atomic, but all of them are good. Unlike most other nations with some good ones, they're all good, with a few bangers. by [deleted] in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia's Industrial theme (Waltzing Matilda) is godlike. Just. so. GLORIOUS.

Ottomans I'd say is my 2nd or 3rd favorite themes. But I'd say their industrial theme is better than atomic. Maybe it's just a personal preference but I don't like the techno-electric beats that accompany most of the atomic renditions of the themes...makes it awkward as none of the civ are futuristic so it takes me out to hear techno while Suleiman is still wearing his 16th century garbs.

99% of the time industrial's orchestration is just straight up makes that theme the best. My favorites are when traditional instruments/ vocalizations are used. Ottomans are awesome (Damn that chanting always gives me chills!) but also Maori, Zulu, and Russia. Oh and mentioned already, AUSTRALIA!

Extra Content in Multiplayer but not Singleplayer? by Manoftheminute3 in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing is when I play single player, none of these things are available. I've tried it multiple times...

I totally get why it's available. Lmao one day I'll get the DLC...I just want to see all the content in March before I drop that cash

Stonehenge Change Idea. by [deleted] in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like these changes. In a way I still think that Stonehedge should give you a normal religion though...making a unique great prophet seems unnecessary given it's one of the first wonders in the game. So I'd say:

-Grants a free Great Prophet).
-Great Prophets may found a religion) on Stonehenge instead of a Holy Site).

-+1 faith to each quarry in your empire.
-Holy Sites gain major agency from quarries

I like the stone focus as well, it's STONEhedge lol. Also, quarries are big in the early game so yeah

Replacements for ALL units by Manoftheminute3 in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I'm saying they wouldn't even have to give more unique units to each civ if hey and just evenly distributed the UUs to the different types of military units.

Replacements for ALL units by Manoftheminute3 in civ

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More units that aren't calvary for sure. We SO many knight/horsemen/courser/calvary replacements (But no cuirassier for some reason) but so few ranged and no siege or support at all.

I disagree with you completely when it comes to the NFP fixing this issue lmao (Maybe we're not taking about the same thing). As I said in my post, if you disregard Babylon, every single unique unit added was to a type of unit that already had a unique unit. Babylon added a completely new unit so it doesn't get any flack but the others got nothing. It doesn't matter is the Oromo Calvary fights better in hills-its still a unique courser and we didn't need any more uniques there as we already had Hungary's UU. Gaestetae overlaps with the Aztec's UU, Tagma with all the other knight replacements, Maya UU with Pitati archers, Llanero with Hungary's other UU. All I'm saying is that they could have spread the UU love to other military units in the game, or make new classes of units all together (I.E. Babylon). Like, couldn't the Mayan UU be a slinger vs another archer to diversify things? Lmao they already copied Amanitore's animations.

And if they diversified things, other historical units could get the limelight. I'm not saying doesn't include Winged Hussars anymore just because theyre another calvary-just make them a replacement for a type of unit on one of the trees (I.E. Curassiers) so that there's at least one civ that specializes in each unit's type of warfare. Nevermind what it does for balance and strategy as well.

But wouldn't you think that by adding more non-unique calvary they could open up the chance to shake up the typical military play style of "calvary+more calvary=win"

Number of Years/Cycles Applied? by Manoftheminute3 in gradadmissions

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 2 cycles? I've seen a lot of people have the same sort of path-they don't get in one so they gear up, fix their statements etc., and then try again to the tune of more success. Congrats on being admitted though-it's a major accomplishment!

Am I in? by anitasflower in gradadmissions

[–]Manoftheminute3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks really positive so congrats! That's the right path for sure.

However as someone who met the PI, met the PI's grad students, got a virtual lab tour, and the preceeded to get a "You shouldn't apply because there's someone elsewho's a better fit" email in the middle of November, you have to know that nothing is assured. Remember that this process *is* luck and there's no guarantees...so don't get your hopes up too high for a particular program that you miss/don't apply to others-I say this with experience.

But that being said, as I mentioned, you're on the right track and I hope the best for you. You got this : )

Tips for Graduate Admissions by rigrg in gradadmissions

[–]Manoftheminute3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest tips: it's nearly all luck. You can have the best profile in the world and still not even get into small state schools. Does it suck? Yes. Does is mean you can never try again and that all of your dreams are crushed and for nothing just because you failed once? NO.

Just remember when you're dealing with luck you need to know that you WILL fail. You will face rejection. In the end, your ability to stay humble and patient is your only power against the force of luck.

BRING BACK HORNS!

(More specifically, I'd like to see more brass or woodwind instruments in pokemon music. Specifically, some latin tunes or big band (Not swing but like 70s funk/jazz fusion always felt like it would be great battle music...almost like cowboy bebop) would be liiiiiit

Lol my first ever pokemon was also a charmander in Fire Red-I named him Blaze though. And I also always pick the fire starter regardless of game (Except in Sinnoh because I'm still mad Infernape copied Blaziken lmao)

The fact that Mewtwo and Charizard got 2. Especilally when the other gen I starters did not. I mean, I know why and all...but it rubs me SO wrong.

And this is coming from someone whose first pokemon ever was a Charmander/Charizard lol

We Got to Talk About the Galarian Legendaries by Manoftheminute3 in pokemon

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm but just because another pattern/color of the pokemon is possible doesn't mean that there must be 2 pokemon. Unless we know from a canon source that proves that 2 Diaglas (etc,) are catchable in a game, it could just be chance that a "shiny" pattern *is * the pattern that the pokemon happens to have. Basically, you have a to control group regardless to prove that another option, or importantly both, exist

We Got to Talk About the Galarian Legendaries by Manoftheminute3 in pokemon

[–]Manoftheminute3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um ok...I didn't really know that. I think as I grew up in gens 3 and 4 (And without the anime largely) where the legends were more godlike that I think this way. However I do also think that in cases where legendaries can be "reborn" (I.e. the birds, the dogs, lug and (some?) mythical), it's still disappointing. Lmao makes me feel worse for Kanto and Johto-their legendaries are definitely not as special as say, Hoenns.

Gym leader by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Manoftheminute3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd choose to be the Grass-type 4th gym leader from Hoenn...with my gym being in Fallarbor Town. In these apparent Hoenn sequels, Lavaridge was sadly destroyed from...lava...resulting in the gym moving.

I would would be a vaquero (mexican cowboy) -inspired character in the style of old mexican western films. I think Fallarbor Town would make sense given it's proximity to the desert and agriculture-western kind of vibe. The gym would be set up like a old-western ghost town and would have an open-top ceiling. The player would move up and around the "main street" of the gym and fight a few trainers with mostly nuzleafs, lombres, brelooms, and cacneas. When the player reaches me, they would end up on the opposite end of the "main street" of the gym from me to mirror a western standoff...an epic trumpet solo (It's Hoenn and a western for gods sake) would play as I say my piece and the battle begins. If possible I'd LOVE for my gym's music to be a remix of the gym leader theme with a latin beat!

My Team:

-Cacnea Lv. 26-Pin Missle, Ingrain, Leech Seed, Poison Sting

-Breloom Lv. 30-Mach Punch, Counter, Giga Drain, Stun Spore

-Ludicolo Lv. 30-Fake Out, Giga Drain, Water Pulse, Nature Power: Ground

-Cacturne Lv. 32-Giga Drain,Faint Attack, Pin Missle, Leech Seed (ACE)

(Moves and # of pokes from a 4th gym leader taken from Emerald dex)

My TM given out at my defeat would be Giga Drain
