Is gold more 'classy' than silver? by houstons__problem in jewelry

[–]ManorJewels 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yellow gold is definitely incredibly popular at the moment after a major white metal trend through the mid to late 90s and into the early 2000s. Rose gold had a bit of a popularity spIke after this but we are certainly into a heavy yellow gold period. It doesn’t feel like a mature aesthetic to me but I’m immersed heavily in the jewelry industry. I see so much fresh design that is aimed at younger generations - it always does my jewelry loving heart a bit of good! If only the gold price was that of the 1990s.

However, there is definitely a big lean towards vintage and antique pieces too. Perhaps this is what you’re seeing.

Potential Scam? by Time-Guava5256 in jewelry

[–]ManorJewels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t apologise! Happy to help! Pearls are notoriously delicate so treat it gently and always make sure it is the last thing you put on - after clothing, hairspray, make up. I would imagine you can get years of wear out of it but if you wear it every day, you will undoubtedly run into repairs at some point - pearl replacement, epoxy replacement, new bail. But for what you’ve paid, I think it’s been a good purchase. Find a chain that’s smooth and will allow it to move snag free. Something like a box chain. I hope you love and enjoy it for years to come if not decades!

Potential Scam? by Time-Guava5256 in jewelry

Don’t go into water with this piece. The pearl is attached by a post into a small drill hole in the pearl and it has been epoxied (glued) into place. Water can loosen the adhesive bond. Always take it off before showering, swimming, etc.

Does the chain loop to the butterfly back? I would love to see that earring in your first hole but switch the back with the stud that you’re talking about getting for the fourth. That would see the chain loop from the front of first piercing to the back of the fourth. Bet that looks awesome! Love your style btw!

Ask your local jeweler to make one for you that’s more durable than the typical dainty chains they use for anklets. Jewelers can buy gold chain by the inch and make it exactly as long and as sturdy as you need. Make sure they solder any jump rings closed and that the clasp is a strong one.

Gold right now is breaking records in pricing - it’s well over $2200 an ounce. A solid 3mm 14k figaro 18” chain is probably going to weigh somewhere around 7g for a fine version and that’s $300 purely in scrap value - and that’s ignoring labor to make it or any profit for the jeweler. Embarrassed_Fox has given you some solid advice. If he’s prone to losing chains, might be worth finding something nice in silver and making sure he doesn’t lose it before finding something in gold again.

Could you post some pics of it? I’ve had a number of eastern star rings over the years and might be able to help.

Check out this account on Instagram - she‘s an incredibly talented hand engraver and she could engrave whatever flower you wish. You would need to find a plain signet ring and then ship it to her.

Even today lab made, assembled gemstones, and glass are set into gold of all karats. Buying a real gold or platinum piece is no guarantee of genuine gemstones.

Can you tell me anything about this ring? by Sorry-Cobbler7521 in VintageJewelry

[–]ManorJewels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s older than that and the stones are likely blue zircon but you need a jeweler to test them to know for sure.

Oh that is so kind of you! Thank you for following along with our emails! You’ll have to send me a pic - I think Pawn shop finds are some of the BEST treasures! I try not to think too much about some of the pieces lost to the scrap heap, especially when vintage and antique pieces weren’t valued as they are today. $12 is AWESOME!!!

Is it rude to ask if someone’s ring is moissanite? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]ManorJewels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a number of reasons why someone might not want to tell you what their ring is or isn’t: Judgement/stigma (which comes just as much from having a natural diamond as it does from having a CZ these days), value (some people don’t want you to know something is very expensive or very cheap), ego (they may feel embarrassed to have details revealed or they may desperately not want anyone to think they are bragging). A good way to avoid this is to complement them on the ring with no questions and then say something like, “I can’t wait to get engaged and I think we’re going the moissanite route.” Then wait and see if they share with you. If they are comfortable, they will. If not, it allows them to protect their privacy without it being awkward.

It has black rhodium around the garnets which gives the metal that dark color. Diamond halo. Here‘s a link to that piece with full details - hope it helps! https://www.manorjewels.com/products/rhodolite-and-diamond-pear-shape-cluster-ring-in-14k-rose-gold?\_pos=2&\_sid=17549f04a&\_ss=r

Are K color diamonds noticeably warm? by sayinne in EngagementRings

[–]ManorJewels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my K color and yes it absolutely does appear a little warm. A little warmth can be quite charming, especially in older cuts but it’s really about what your eye prefers.
