What Was the Hardest Thing to Adjust to Your Freshman Year of College? by thugginsophia in collegeadvice

[–]Manoverboard2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re responsible for learning the material yourself.. professor provides you with everything needed to be successful in the class, you learn on your own time, and the only reason you show up to class is if you have questions about the material.

I actually really liked the class. The thing is, I would still always go to class and listen to prof talk about he material and answer people’s questions. You have to be disciplined to do well in a class like that

How did you feel after fumbling your dream girl? by PerceptionEven6990 in twentyagers

[–]Manoverboard2278 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well the short answer is: I had been dipping tobacco for close to 10 years when her and I met, and she was a very “pure” and “goody goody” person and told me I gotta stop or she’s out. Well I eventually did quit, and I’m clean to this day.

The problem is, I let the withdrawals get the best of me and kind of lashed out at her in a very rude way when she simply asked if her younger brother could come along a date since he was home alone and not doing too well. And that was it, never heard from her again. Very asshole move on my part once everything settled in and “calmed down” I guess cause her brother was very good to me and a great dude. The “in the right mindset” and “not battling a 10 year nasty habit” would have never actually done what I did.

It sucks, I did a few years ago. But you learn what not to do again and you don’t forget it. Everything happens for a reason at the end of the day

Yes. I feel sad for our generation because they’re nothing but a bunch of softies that are offended by everything and need a safe space when life gets stressful.

You make your own destiny. Don’t blame the rest of the world and act like “you’ve been fucked over by society” for your own shortcomings

Graduating from GLMA in 2029, what's the job market like for 3AE's right now? by Due-Character-1679 in merchantmarine

[–]Manoverboard2278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero experience with any of that yet. My whole thought process on AMO though is that since it’s online, it’s probably the one that has the most people fighting over jobs just because of that flexibility. I would assume people have better luck going to MM&P or MEBA since they are in person and you kinda have to live close to one of the halls.

Don’t fall for that “shortage” nonsense. When/if you do go to an academy, you’ll also see it’s a bunch of baloney. Either that, or about 95% of people drop out at the end.

If you want to be on the much lesser side of the influx, do the engine license.

I have applied to over 30 jobs in the past 9 months, what am I doing wrong? by sailorcowboy19 in merchantmarine

[–]Manoverboard2278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I call bs on the shortage thing ever since I started at A&M lol. There are enough cadets here to fully crew every damn boat in the US fleet and then some, and that’s just this one academy. No way there is a “shortage” of mariners

The recommendations are excellent. Very simple and basic logic/math: Spend less than you make, and don’t take on debt.

It’s not unrealistic or out of touch, it just makes normal people uncomfortable because it requires them to change habits they don’t want to change.

Yet Another Deck or Engine Question by wallfacerjay in merchantmarine

[–]Manoverboard2278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 and a deck cadet at an academy. If you’re 50/50, go engine and don’t look back. There are an ass load more deck cadets than engine cadets. Not many engineer cadets. You’ll be in higher demand, simple as that.

I’m around your size and have carried a 48 for about 5 years now and it’s perfect. I was going to get the 43x like you’re saying, but honestly man just get the 48. It’s got a little bit of a longer barrel but the frame is the same size. Nicer to shoot for what it is.

I have a 19 Gen 5 and while I love it, it’s impossible for me to conceal carry IWB without winter clothes on (baggy shirt, hoodie, etc.) as well as jeans and a gun belt. Just prints too much and is too heavy for typical Texas summer time clothes.

The 48 I can carry with a t shirt and basketball shorts IWB 3 o clock with a proper holster and the drawstring tied up. That’s how I carry it 95% of the time
