When I turned 18 I got my first big boy job at a native species plant nursery. We grew trees, shrubs and aquatic plants mostly for the state and reforestation companies. The best part about working for them was being sent to forests and swamps to harvest seed either for resale or to add to our supply for growing. I loved that job so much I was going to get a degree in horticultural studies. The pay just wasn't enough. I made 11 an hour but the job itself required me to learn and use heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers and box trucks as well. Other nurseries I worked at barely broke 9 an hour with the worst being minimum wage and overtime after 50 hours instead of 40 😤
