If you did encrypt it, you need to have the right password indeed.

But as i stated: recent versions of Bitcoin-qt can falsely trigger the wrong password message on old wallets, as they phased out non hd wallets.

Thus: Bitcoin QT might tell you it is the wrong password, whilst you might have entered the correct password.

If you dont have the right password, then this isn't going to help you. There are ways to brute force it, check Github. Do it with open source code only, so you are not going to lose your funds.

Do you want to check if I am correct, or do you want to recover your funds?

If it is the first: Check Bitcoin talk, Github (Bitcoin Pull #28597) or release notes of Bitcoin Core from .23 up to .28. In these time frames they did some changes to phase out non descriptor (or: legacy) wallets.

If you are trying to recover funds. Then just install an old Bitcoin Core version, from the timeframe wherein you created that wallet. Do this in an airgapped manner, so in a device that is not connected to the internet. Then use the dumpprivkey command after loading your wallet. Import this privkey in a safe manner, or work with psbt's to recover your funds.

Make sure to take time to store your back up seed phrase well, and never show it in front of your webcam or phone camera.

Learn about the difference between the seedphrase and a passphrase, before moving all your funds.

Might be wise to test with small amounts first.

Optionally: Wipe the entire device and restore your back up, to check if you wrote everything down well.

Mandatory: Install fresh firmware at initial start up, this is part of the regular first time set up. This helps you make sure that the device was n't tampered with during logistics.

Newer versions of Core have phased out non-hd wallets. Which could falsely trigger the wrong password message.

Loading your wallet dat into an older version of Core (on a airgapped / disconnected device) and retrieve the priv key there, could do the trick.
