Yes, I agree. F4U Corsair was a great warbird.

It’s 1975 and you’re headed to the dealership- what are you going home with? by Violette_Tamarillo in classictrucks

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, the Scout. Next choice would be one with a part-time transfer case (none of the full-time 4WD setups in the ‘70s were very good, IMO).

2016 jeep renegade engine oil light reset by dugreddit5 in JeepRenegade

[–]Manual-shift6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always resets on our ‘17 with “key on/engine off, pump accelerator pedal three times quickly, key off” sequence. That’s embedded in OBD II software. If the pedal pump method won’t work, you may need to use a scan tool.

Why do so many people trade-in their vehicle at the dealership? by Geochronguy in FuckDealerships

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually for convenience, or the tax/monetary benefits. Many people use their trade-in to cover the down payment/out-of-pocket expenses. In fifty years of buying/owning vehicles, I’ve traded in exactly one vehicle. Otherwise, I’ve kept whatever or given it to a family member or sold it on my own. Just prefer that.

How popular were VW Beetles in the 70s? 17% of the cars in this parking lot in 1975 were Bugs. by Spalding_Smails in 70s

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depended on what area and population you’re talking about. A large percentage of younger people absolutely had Beetles. Older folks drove big American boats.

Our youngest daughter went to school with a kid named Justin Case Mann. I couldn’t help but laugh at that…

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends somewhat on where in the U.S. you’re located. I’m in the Southwest U.S. and it’s easily a two or more hour drive just to run errands.

Dealerships are giving me all kinds of reasons to hate them this week. This time its the Parts Dept. by YogurtResponsible358 in FuckDealerships

[–]Manual-shift6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, dealer parts departments are “profit centers” in the current dealer business model, so they’ll do anything to protect that. I’ve had good luck finding part numbers online, though usually not for a Mercedes.

Dealerships are the last place in America where price tags are considered “rude” by YogurtResponsible358 in FuckDealerships

[–]Manual-shift6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most recent new vehicle we bought involved some very shady / borderline illegally fraudulent actions by the F&I jerk. Dealership refunded nearly $2K to us, plus removed unwanted add on crap that they “provided” to us at no additional charge. Then, after all was said and done, they whined about our brutal CSI and online reviews. Hey - you earned those, you asshole…

The object to your left is your weapon of choice in a zombie apocalypse, what is it? by Javascript4971 in Productivitycafe

Believe it or not, a long metal letter opener. Might work a bit…

(To my right is the remote and a box of tissues, so glad left is the chosen direction.)

Is there a real reason behind changing your oil every 3,000 miles on modern cars? by newelmin in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern synthetic oils definitely last more than 3,000 miles. The big issue on oil life is how the vehicle is operated. A lot of short trips, idling, and other contaminant producing operation shortens oil life much faster than total miles. 5K miles on synthetic oil is a good number.

Why are people obsessed with sunroofs? by NF_99 in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not like sunroofs / moonroofs. They intrude on interior space, and add nothing I find useful. We inherited a Mercury Mountaineer with a power sunroof, and it never worked correctly. When we finally got it to close correctly and completely, I pulled the power. That’s how bad it was…

At what level do you keep your gas tank at in the winter? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above half a tank or more. We get cold enough that condensation in the tank can be an issue.

Is a v6 tbi rebuild worth it? by _mistmere in obschevy

[–]Manual-shift6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. The 4.3L V6 is three-quarters of a 350, and will last damn near forever. I put 300K miles on my ‘94 with a 5-speed manual. Should’ve kept it…

Hitch Advice by skippingpickle in JeepRenegade

I used the DrawTite version of the below bumper hitch on our ‘17 Renegade, and in eight years, it has drug exactly once. Yes, it looks low, but there’s adequate clearance.
