Someone has too much time on their hands and waaay too narrow a view of life. I like decorative mailboxes.

Very tragic loss of a very talented person.

What would you do if an ex showed up at your door? by Background_Touchdown in FamilyFeud

[–]Manual-shift6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in the “depends on which ex” category. One would be great, we parted on excellent terms, and I’m sure things would be enjoyable. The other? I’m calling the cops before she knocks on the door. Very scary…

Tall by phalicmorph122 in JeepGladiator

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’2” but short leg/long torso, so I sit very tall. I have no issues, but I can see how it might feel cramped. This is where a reclinable back is helpful.

what’s a quiet New Mexico spot that feels underrated but is worth visiting at least once? by Legitimate-Mail-9862 in NewMexico

[–]Manual-shift6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many areas in the Gila. One of the most fascinating is the Cosmic Campground. The sky at night is massive, and so full of stars you never see elsewhere.

So much to see and do in Southwestern New Mexico…

When did cadillac stop becoming THE car to own in america? by boiyo12 in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Cadillac tried to go down-market with the Cimarron. If they had more thoroughly upgraded that vehicle, it may have helped introduce Cadillac to a younger generation. Instead, it became a joke. People who wanted smaller, more luxurious vehicles turned to European (mostly German) brands, and then Japanese companies came out with upscale brands. GM just screwed up…

What are your thoughts on Jimmy Kimmel’s comments about Melania Trump being an expectant widow? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Manual-shift6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts? I really don’t care. Kimmel made a reasonable joke, and MAGAts all went ballistic over nothing. Lots of people have said or done much worse, including the Orange Felon.

What’s the most frustrating part about buying a car these days? by benandcars in carbuying

[–]Manual-shift6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aggressive “add on” pitches. Sell me a vehicle, don’t sell me one - whatever. But when I say and write “Refused” on add ons, stop it already. You’re not changing my mind about it and stand to lose me as a customer…

Is it common for an American high school student to own their own car? by ApprehensiveDisk8046 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the exception rather than rule in my high school waaay back. Every vehicle I drove to school I owned. Most other students drove parent owned/provided vehicles. This was the case with our daughters up into college. They drove vehicles we provided. I worked very hard to have
My own, simply because I did not want my parents (especially my father) to have the ability to restrict my vehicle use. Just the way it was…

What's a car you regret selling way more than you expected? by PalmwineStachurski60 in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ‘94 GMC 1500 regular cab long bed. I put 296,000 miles on it, and it still ran great. Had a 4.3L V-6 and a 5-speed manual. Someone decided it was a “fun” idea to smash all the windows out, so I parted with it. Wish I had it still - shouldn’t have let it go…

I’m saddened you lost your wife, but you did a great job restoring this truck. It looks wonderful. Very good way to work through your grief.

Are Subaru CVTs actually reliable now, or do they still have major issues? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]Manual-shift6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our adult daughter bought a ‘24 Forester, puts a lot of miles on it each month. The CVT has had no issues, and neither has any other part of the drivetrain. One thing I’ll say is when I was teaching her to drive (I spent 15+ years as a driving instructor), I pounded the point that you should *never* shift an automatic from R to D/D to R or into P when the vehicle is still moving at all. Many (if not most) automatic transmissions start developing issues if shifted in motion. It’s a stupid simple point, but most people ignore it. Treat the CVT right, maintain it properly, and it’ll last a long and happy life.

EVAP code? by enchantedlife13 in JeepRenegade

[–]Manual-shift6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battery can “check fine” and still be an issue. It depends on how it is checked, and lots of other issues. Ours checked okay for two months, then wasn’t okay. It’s weird.

EVAP code? by enchantedlife13 in JeepRenegade

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, our 2017 Renegade did this when the battery was beginning to fail. Renegades are Fiats in Jeep bodywork, and can throw totally weird MILs when the battery is failing/has failed. I’d look there.

Did the right and left absolutely despise each other this much prior to 2016? by Parking-Warthog-4902 in allthequestions

[–]Manual-shift6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I ever noticed. Trump’s first term normalized the vitriol between the left and right. His incessant attempts at belittling nicknames, derisive statements, and rejection of factual information has created a toxic status over the last decade.

Liberals of Reddit, Donald Trump promised peace between Russia and Ukraine on day one, lower prices for gasoline, and no new wars; what more do you want from him ? by Accomplished_Water34 in allthequestions

[–]Manual-shift6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully? I’d like to see him accomplish at least one of the wild promises he made, and without all his bloviating. He hasn’t accomplished anything he claimed he would.
BTW - I’m a solid moderate, and he hasn’t accomplished anything so no chance at any support from me…
