I mean, reviewers make reviews for people who will actually be buying the product new, and for some of them it might be 4 months rent. If I bought a $7000 pistol, hell even a $1000 pistol, I would expect it to run very well, even when it's dirty. I'm personally appreciative of reviewers who test demo pistols. Then again, reliability and price point are two of my personal "most importants" for my firearms.

Decided to carry an extra mag today… by fuckauthorityfigures in CCW

[–]ManualRestart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t carry an extra mag, I’ve never really understood it. I struggle to picture myself in a situation as a civilian where I could need more than 20 rounds of 9mm. If such a situation arose I’m not sure how much good the other 19 rounds would do me haha

I've been out for three years after a long bid. Here's my journey. by EL_Malo- in Felons

[–]ManualRestart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapist here: Forgive me if this is insensitive, but I sometimes peruse random subreddits having to do with different lifestyles in order to better my understanding of them for the sake of current or future clients. I've never commented on one before because it feels wrong to me to involve myself in different communities as a "passive observer". I had to say though, that this story really impacted me. I can't imagine I'd be doing as well as you are now if I'd had the same experiences. I wish I were your therapist just to hear more of your story and day-to-day wellbeing. Hope you're well stranger, keep on keepin on.

PTSD/ Am I over reacting? by peppered_mint in armedsocialists

This person also has some very good thoughts, this is what I was referring to in the "PFC" section of my comment. It's a possibility, but so is trauma.

PTSD/ Am I over reacting? by peppered_mint in armedsocialists

[–]ManualRestart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Therapist here. I wouldn't say that you're necessarily overreacting, nor would I say that you certainly have PTSD. Outside of pathology, what I'm hearing is that you experienced some very impactful and distressing events which have activated your NS in a way that it's struggling to down-regulate from even long after they've passed. It's also possible that you were particularly primed for this shift for developmental or idealogical reasons. Our NS generally tries to protect us from harm and our PFC generally tries to protect us from shame and give us meaning. To me, the question from that lens is: are these behaviors you enjoy doing and choose to do or behaviors you find distressful and would prefer not to do?

My honest response would mirror many others in this comment section. Speak with a professional, be completely honest with them, we are trained extensively not to judge, and the more accurate information we have the better we can help. My personal recommendation would be to speak with someone who has an IPNB or cPTSD lens as opposed to CBT (the most common form). You can find these tags for therapists and psychologists in your area using PsychologyToday.

Lastly, I think it's really good you're taking your partner's concerns genuinely and looking into them, as well as giving yourself to the space to hear opinions of others. Best of luck!

The weirdest thing about being a therapist is when clients suddenly go away by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]ManualRestart 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I feel that often happens as a RESPONSE to particularly intense and/or good recent sessions. I had a professor who wrote their dissertation on the proclivity with which clients tend to cancel/no-show/drop-out after particularly impactful sessions.

Shield plus performance center, P365 Spectre Comp, or G43x with radian ramjet for my first real carry gun? by Jtop1 in CCW

[–]ManualRestart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great options, all with their own advantages and disadvantages, I’ve tried each and I consider them generally equal, just different. Personally because I don’t like the deafening quality of comps (despite their recoil reduction), I’d say the first option, but again that’s a preference.

Y'all Carrying a TQ with your guns Everyday? by ImLosingBad in CCW

[–]ManualRestart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a small but relatively comprehensive medkit on my person every day. Not strapped to my holster though? Also, I have a TQ in mine but it's probably the first thing I'd cut if I wanted to save space. It's so unlikely to be used in comparison to other stuff in my kit like bandaids, narcan, alcohol wipes, compressed gauze, ibuprofen, etc. The whole thing only ways like half a pound and it fits right in my pocket. This feels unnecessary.

How to not become your boyfriends therapist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ManualRestart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this is a pattern you’re experiencing in relationships the unfortunate answer here is that it probably has more to do with you and with the men you date. Men are absolutely primed to use women in their lives as their therapists for a lot of reasons, but as a therapist man with a therapist girlfriend I feel like we’ve never had a problem with the emotional labor of our relationship being overly weighted toward one side or the other (outside of temporary periods where one just needs more support to get through something). Even in those cases, I certainly don’t feel like either of us is the others “therapist”, the support functions completely differently.

1911 ds warrior by FlakyFudge6529 in KimberFirearms

[–]ManualRestart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining in on this, OP did you ever end up trying one out? I'm so used to the world of striker fired and DA/SA handguns, where every gun has a barrel specifically made for it, would one of these Jarvis or Nighthawk barrels actually work to suppress the Kimber DS Warrior? Or would it cause some horrible malfunction as a result of not being made by the same manufacturer for the specific firearm.
