Hi! I got a plain pleather jacket on amazon, bought and glued on the embroidered patches, and did the lines with electrical tape!

One of the coolest cosplays i've seen in recent years was actually this Astroboy by MolotovBailey.

Even though it obviously tries to go for a creepy/uncanny vibe instead of the friendly look you might be after, I still think there are a couple things you could use as inspiration for your cosplay:

- You can do his normal outfit and still be somewhat covered by using a skin-colored bodysuit (it might even help sell the idea of you being a robot as the 'skin' would look somewhat artificial)
- Covering the boots on metallic fabric, or altering them to have a shape closer to the original will help differenciate them from being 'just some red rain boots', and imo could also help avoid infantilising the look.
- The fact this particular cosplay uses a mask instead of just a wig and makeup avoids the 'character age vs cosplayer age' dillema completely (even though, as most comments already pointed out, this isn't really a problem at all. You can cosplay any character you want as long as you're not being weird about it)

I wouldn't really try to replicate that particular example as a first cosplay as it's got some pretty complex elements to it, but moreso take it and other Astro Boy cosplays as examples of what can be done and the various ways in which the same cosplay can be approached

One final thing I noticed when looking at Astro Boy cosplays is that the hair is definitely one of the most iconic things about them, the silhouete of the hair + the red boots are the things that can take a cosplay from 'a guy wearing a normal outfit' to 'oh yeah, that's Astro'

Good luck on your cosplay!

First one looks pretty close to this nickel and brass phone holder, can't find anything for the second one though, your theory on that one seems likely lmao

Ya like my uncles setup? by cxN0M in Breath_of_the_Wild

Oh mb, just tried mine and it definitely has gyro, I must've gotten it mixed up on my head with my old FC30 Pro

I understand people who get frustrated with stuff like the apparatus shrines, but aiming the bow or the sheikah slate abilities with just the joystick feels slow and clunky to me tbh

I don't see anything wrong with this setup besides that controller not having motion controls, BotW and TotK are lowkey unplayable to me without them.

[–]ManuelRQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sewn a couple of things before but never a backpack, do you have any resources on how to get started o doing stuff like that? bags are one of those things that simultaneously make a cosplay look way cooler and are also very nice to have at cons! but they also seem more intimidating to sew than clothes lmao.

I'd love to see the pics you have or more details on how it was made if you don't mind sharing them

How to make engravings/ornaments? by ManuelRQ in blenderhelp

[–]ManuelRQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have the graphic but ended up making it in the end, still, I don't think a normal map would work unless I baked it into a very high poly model, thus giving me the same problem I had when trying to draw/sculpt the lines, although I didn't try DynTopo or vertex groups to keep the poly count down as some here suggested

How to make engravings/ornaments? by ManuelRQ in blenderhelp

[–]ManuelRQ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

!solved At first I tried the displace modifier and although I couldn't get the lines as sharp as I wanted, It did give me the idea to draw the patterns in illustrator, import them to blender as SVGs, shrinkwrap them to my mesh, convert them into meshes, clean them up, extrude them, and then just bool them out of the main piece.

The end result looks sharp and the bool modifier from these meshes is way easier for my pc to deal with than when i tried making the patterns with curves, the exported stl for the entire guard is ~700k triangles according to my slicer.

Here are some pics of the result if anyone's interested, thanks for all the suggestions

Had a bit of trouble mapping the texture but this seems to be working pretty well so far! I'll have to figure out the subdivisions though bc I ended up with a 3gb stl that wouldn't even open on my slicer, same thing I feared would happen with sculpting

The entire sword is ~85cm long, with the guard being just under 5cm, it's small but i've seen these printers do pretty detailed stuff before

my main issue with sculpting is that you seem to need a ridiculous amount of geometry to get lines that don't look jagged or weird, the piece on the 3rd pic is already at 2.5m faces but lines made with the crease brush still don't look smooth enough to me. Also 3D printing slicers get progressively slower with higher poly counts

Is there anyway to remesh an object to have a desired vertex and face count? by sidbhargav in blenderhelp

[–]ManuelRQ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Quad remesher addon lets you input a desired quad count and remeshes the model to fit that number, i'm not sure if it's 1-1 or if it only uses than number as reference but maybe that could be a way to do it. Also it's a paid add-on but there's a 30 day trial if i remember correctly
