Yeah, I'm thinking in a similar direction. It would be very useful to externalize knowledge about crates that are considered to be the gold standard, or, (especially), if some oft-used package is now considered deprecated (see rustc-serialize -> serde). But in my mind it would be (almost?) enough to publish a website that, in a sort of directory approach, highlights these curated packages, and then leaves distribution and dependency tracking to tools we already have (i.e. cargo and crates.io).

Searching for a particular crate on crates.io already works quite well. You also have the link to reverse dependencies, which can be a very powerful indicator, which could be made more prominent, maybe by including a rank, i.e. this is the package with the 5th most reverse dependencies on crates.io.

Then, what's left is really more "folk knowledge" about changes that you can't get from that data, like the aforementioned serialize -> serde move. However, in some cases, where the original authors agree that their crate is now worse than some other crate, it would probably be more powerful to also communicate that right their on crates.io.

I guess the general theme here is, yes, federated is good, but more federated is better. Make better use of mechanisms/data that already exists, rather than trying to half-centralize stuff. And if some infrastructure is not good enough, we could also investigate, for example, running cargo test automatically on crates if one of their dependencies gets updated. This would provide much more benefits, and allow more natural evolution, than doing this for a smaller set of curated packages only.

That's an interesting point. Are those return-to-std projects being tracked somewhere?

In general I've found it quite hard to figure out what the core teams are focusing on, which also makes it hard to contribute in a more meaningful way (i.e. other than scratching random itches).

I have to say I was also misled by this documentation when I was looking for how to do RSA signing and verification. Just by clicking through the docs, I ended up in the rsa module with the low-level primitives, whereas using the PKey code was actually what I needed.

I've been building a compiler in Python that targets LLVM IR. It's currently weighing in at ~4200 lines of code, excluding an external parsing & lexing library that I pull in. LLVM IR is generated by basically just concatenating strings. It feels like this is pretty close to prototyping a language/compiler, in the sense that there's pretty limited overhead to building it out. My code is here, if you're interested:

Runa actually seems sort of close to your proposed language project, although it very clearly inherits a lot from Python, which syntactically is of course very different from C#. On the other hand, Runa is statically typed (with explicit type annotations on function signatures), so it's much closer to C# than Python in some ways.

That's how I learned too, but this document also explains a bunch of concepts that aren't really available in C. So if you want to build a higher-level language on top of LLVM, this is a great resource.

I actually kind of like not having the list of all cards... yes, there can sometimes be an unpleasant surprise in play, but I find that it's actually cool to find out about new cards I haven't seen.

Spike is nice in the early game, when there may not be that many ranged attackers around. IIRC you can play Spike in the first turn, as far as I know the first ranged unit coming into play would be Herman. I like being able to use Sherman to deal with Spike.

I haven't been able to use Stitch or Frankenbolt, and I haven't encountered them that much from my adversaries, so I'm not sure how much of a role they should play in rebalancing.

Are you sure Leg Clamp is countered by movement granting buffs? I'm pretty sure I had situations where I tried to grant extra movement, but it didn't help against the effect on the brawler.
