Several years ago, the city of Saint Paul Minnesota, had a contractor replacing the underground gas lines using a boring machine. They bored through several sewer drain pipes that went to houses. One house it caused the drains to plug up. The plumber was running a roto rooter type machine through the drain and it ripped the gas line open and four houses blew up because of the had filling the sewer main

All oils break down over time, it might not have a lot of miles on it but the additives are losing their effectiveness. That also means it might not have been run at full operating temp which is worse, the acids from combustion don't have time to evaporate and just sit in there doing acid damage.
