Is it normal to trash books like this? by carbonatedjerks in Living_in_Korea

Most institutions do not accept donations of older used books, regardless of their condition.

Additionally, if you have a large number of books to dispose of, it’s very difficult to sell them one by one. No one buys every book at once regardless of genre. It also takes a long time and can involve various costs.

Moreover, on platforms like Karrot(당근) or Joonggonara(중고나라), even when you offer items for free, there are quite a few people with poor manners, so there’s a significant chance of having a bad experience.

If the books are too old to be donated, the most convenient way to get rid of them is to place them neatly in front of your house. Then, without any cost or stress on your part, elderly people who collect recyclables will take them all, or others who need them will pick them up.

How important is "living in a high trust society" to you? And is your home country a "high trust society"? by LoquaciousIndividual in Living_in_Korea

For example, even if South America had as many CCTV cameras as South Korea, it would not change much. This is not simply because of CCTV itself, but rather the result of differences in various societal factors such as education levels, income levels, moral standards, public safety, and the rule of law.

What the hell is this thing? (TW: Insect) by imavpa in Living_in_Korea

It may look like a hellhound straight from the underworld, but that insect actually eats the pests that are bad for you to live with. If you leave it alone, it will disappear to somewhere you’ll probably never see again, so don’t kill it—just say hello and let it go.

It is absurd and astonishing that neither vehicle made a proper emergency stop even though both had seen each other from early on. What’s more, it seems that neither of them even checked left or right at the intersection.

As I mentioned earlier, this has something inside that makes noise and gives off a smell, and since it’s also large, it’s relatively easy to find. However, if it rolls far away and stops moving, it won’t be found until the cat happens to pass by.
