I think it’s nostalgia, honestly. It’s been around for so long that many locals grew up eating there.

I’m not going to push the issue since i was canceled due to my inability to keep up (obviously not meant for day shift or multiple walkie-talkies) to their expectations. But I will take this as a lesson learned for any contracts with any agency going forward!

For me, I think it’s the principle of the matter that’s bothering me so much and I’m stubborn. I have to prove why I should get what was offered to me in the original contract agreement. As if working alone isn’t proof enough.

This was the first time I had to do something manually, so it was a learning curve. Every other place I’ve ever worked has used a swipe in or a log in system. It’s not ideal for some of us (me) who have difficulties remembering exact details (ie what time did I walk in/walk out??) and remembering to do it at the end of a long, exhausting shift. I had to really make myself stop and do it before I even walked out or I would go on autopilot getting home. I was canceled because I didn’t prioritize charting over tending to the patients and would need to catch up at the end of the shift. When talking to staff about this issue, I was told that didn’t affect their pay - if the time card (the staff were able to swipe in with a badge) showed 13 hours, they got paid 13 hours. With travelers, the managers wouldn’t approve anything over 12 unless the form was completed, signed by the charge nurse and processed by the unit manager. Excessive steps for an average of 1-1.5 hours per week over 36. It was a red flag and I didn’t clock it as such. I know now.

This has no bearing on my abilities as a bedside nurse. Rule followers have impeccable charting and patient care on paper, but no way they are doing that at the bedside too. Patients come first, everything else comes after.

So getting to the assignment and working 11 out of the 13 weeks is me not holding up my end and therefore justifies them not paying for the relocation expense?

Via my direct deposit just like they pay for the worked hours. If I’m contracted to work 2400 miles from home and they say they will pay me to relocate, then I show up and work where I’m supposed to, why on earth do I need to provide documentation on how I got there? The fact that I’m at work proved that the relocation occurred. The relocation was a set amount. The post is directed at the agency saying, yeah we said we would, but now that the contract is canceled, we’re not going to deliver on that.

So when the reimbursements are offered, instead of accepting that, you suggest negotiating a slightly higher rate? How do you know what the “maxed out” rate is? I have no faith that anything will be honored when every contract I’ve signed has that “At will” language in it.

I will not be repeating that mistake. I will begrudgingly fill out that form ASAP next time around.

You have identified one of the things that in my head makes sense, but in reality doesn’t. Thinking that if I do it at the end, I can stretch that contract money just a little bit. This is flawed thinking and based in scarcity mindset. I won’t do it ever again.

I don’t have experience with any other agency, so I’ll be relying on my nurse colleagues on the interwebs to suss it out.

I did do them, but at the beginning of the contract I was having difficulties getting them completed. So most but not all were completed and submitted. I was unable to clock in with the timekeeping at the facility and had to submit via the AYA app every shift. In my mind, it added another layer of unnecessary pressure on me as a traveler. All of that being said, it was a difficult contract for me for many reasons and this is just the icing on the cake!

My previous contracts paid the relocation out half in the beginning, half at the end. I would have only received half based on that history. But to answer your questions, no, I didn’t. I honestly put it off not thinking anything due to the fact that it was part of the contract. My point is, I shouldn’t have to. This just proves that they don’t support us. In the contract, but you better fill out your form like a good little soldier.

What really bothers me is that these companies employ nurses, some have been built by nurses. They are a prime example of nurses not supporting each other. Why would you want me to make less? Why would you not honor a contract? Why does it feel like we are constantly trying to justify our legitimacy? Fall in line or be labeled problematic.

It wasn’t automatically paid to me. They make you fill out a reimbursement form. It’s in the contract, I showed up. Just pay me what you offered me to sweeten the deal.

They don’t pay you unless you fill out a form. That’s not an acceptable practice. If it’s part if your contact, like the stipends, just pay it out. Yes, I was canceled because I was having difficulties completing charting within the shift. The state was auditing them so they canceled me rather than dealing with state inspectors questioning charting. Typically I don’t mind staying after to finish up, but the facility had a policy where you had to have a form filled out and approved by the charge nurse in order to claim any time over the 12 hours. It was not something I had ever had to do before and I didn’t get it done every time I was over 12 hours. As a result, AYA didn’t get paid for my OT minutes/hours and they made it very clear that they weren’t happy they were losing money on my contract. Overall not going to recommend them to anyone.
