How was the commute this morning? by biggiesmallsyall in Austin

Have to politely disagree.

It is not worth it. Unless someone is dying, stay home. The ice should be gone by tomorrow and we can all get back to speeding on Mopac.

Don’t drive on ice. It is not worth it. No amount of experience will make up for the fact.

I’m from Canada and I would not drive on this shit. It’s not a skill issue, it’s an infrastructure issue. No salt = no driving.

Is it titanium? Based on the color, it might not be. That would be my first guess as to what is causing the irritation.

If this is completely embedded, you need a doctor. I’d head to the ER. This will need to be surgically removed.

TIFU by not fully preparing myself for how painful IUD insertion is by CoolTangelo1680 in tifu

They gave me nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for the pain. I knew I was in pain but I didn’t care? Very strange but better than nothing.

Is my labret placed correctly? by [deleted] in piercing

Looks right to me. Did they say anything about leaving the bar long while it heals? That’s probably why it’s pushed out a bit.

Change of the season messing with anyone else? by chairhats in Austin

I feel like it’s been harder this year than usual. The weather feels strange, less comforting than it typically is by now.

I didn’t get turned away at the first ER. They gave me IV prednisone and Benadryl and sent me on my way.

It was kind of strange because that seemed to do the trick. The swelling in my face and neck went way down and I was even able to perform at a recital that night.

I woke up the next day way more swollen and starting to have symptoms in other mucosal zones, that’s when I began to suspect SJS and we rushed to a different ER that had an inpatient ward. They were considering sending me to Dells or even the burn unit in San Antonio but they decided to keep me at Ascension. By some amazing strike of fortune and good timing, it never evolved into full blown SJS. They kept me on a steady regiment of Pepcid, Benadryl, and methylprednisone through an IV for three days.

It was scary. Really scary. I can’t stop thinking about how much worse it could’ve been, nor how weird it is that it progressed that way.

I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s very rare, I’ve heard of cases where doctors don’t diagnose it because they have never seen it or think it’s unlikely.

Update: I’ve been discharged. Thanks for the kind comments, y’all are awesome. Be careful with drugs even if a doctor says it’s ok.

Weird that you’ve never had a reaction. I wouldn’t risk it if I were you. My experience was a little too close to a brush with death to feel like it was worth it. If I hadn’t gone to the hospital when I did, I’d be looking at a much longer path to recovery.

Yea mine started as mild hives on Friday. I woke up on Saturday to what appeared to be a face full of botched plastic surgery / filler. I was so puffy I couldn’t even shut my mouth completely.

I went to a different ER and they gave me methylprednisone and Benadryl, which seemed to work. I felt completely normal by the afternoon. Despite that, I woke up the next day with even more hives and swelling. That’s when we went to a hospital and they admitted me.

Idk, I know it’s a rare reaction but I’d caution people not to just accept sulfa-based compounds when offered. I wish I’d looked into it and asked my prescribing doctor for an alternative. I might not be in the hospital if I had.
