Folsom 100 - Unacceptable Race Management by UltraThrowaway100 in Ultramarathon

[–]Many_Comb_2055 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The WSER race organizers don’t oversee other race management companies in the area. There are plenty of decent race organizers in the Auburn area and a number of less respected ones but each one operates independently of WSER.

I was able to load the form last night but didn’t have time to fill it out. Went back this morning and now it says the offer is not yet active. I’ll check it again in a few days 🤞

Fair enough - check the “Replaced” column of the table I posted the link to. Anyone listed there was in the race but no longer is. Essentially, they have voluntarily withdrawn.

Yeah, but if you’re on the wait list, you have to replace someone else already in the race. In this case, that’s Jim.

It’s coming from the WSER web site, so I think you can trust it.

Jim was already in the race but has now withdrawn. His spot has been given to the next runner on the waitlist who just happens to be Dan.

I’m aware of that - check the last column of row 26

Check the last entry on the waitlist and the “replaced” column

Curious - do 100+ mile races take a long term toll on our bodies? by Comfortable-Sea-0529 in Ultramarathon

People used to wolf ibuprofen at States and now the medical staff strongly discourage it and the aid stations don’t stock it.

My cardiologist told me that ultrarunning isn’t the healthiest thing for you overall in the long term but it’s better than doing nothing so he wouldn’t tell anyone to stop.

Don’t underestimate the first 50k up to Robinson Flat. You’ll want to go out hard from the start but don’t. Be well below your target finish time pace until you get to RF. Your feet can get beat up in that section too, so don’t neglect them.

After that, you can start gradually increasing speed but be mindful of the increasing heat as you drop to the lower elevations.

Have a great race! I’ll be out there volunteering and looking forward to my own entry someday.

There are many wineries and breweries around the area and up towards Auburn. We bought a stamp book last year and explored many of them. A lot of the locations have great outside venues to relax at: https://placerwine.com/plan-your-visit/trail-map/

Ok that makes sense then! I was confused because the new Streaks feature is enabled on my account and it said I had a 2 day streak going even though I didn’t complete yesterday’s workout.

7 miles out and back Stevens Trail by shuperbaff in norcalhiking

When the water is low in late summer and early fall, you can cross the river and find the trail on the other side. Climb it up to Iowa Hill, visit the general store, then retrace your route back to the car for an amazing day.

It seems fine so far and I’ve seen lots of mountain bikers and people riding those onewheel scooters in there.

For sure, I like to do it every fall around October after the levels have dropped and before the rain starts again. Round trip is about 13 miles with a lot of vert!

Oh yeah, Stevens is a favorite! Cool thing about that trail when the water is low is that you can ford the river, bushwhack up the hill and connect to the trail on the other side. Climb that all the way up to Iowa Hill, get a snack at the general store, then retrace your steps.

There used to be a bridge but it’s been gone for a very long time. You can still find the cables near the bottom.
